Bob Dole complained that the congeniality of the Senate changed from when he was first elected, and by the time he left, it was no longer acceptable to have friends across the aisle.

Republicans developed scortched earth politics, where hyper partisanship is the only acceptable route. Rather than compromise to govern they have chosen to obstruct and shut the government down.

If he is bothered by bloggers who don't like the way he is doing things, then he should quit. Lieberman is scum, but he is no quitter. Hopefully, his replacement will have the willingness to go on like Lieberman and the political policies of Franken.
