Rachael last night. Her last words on the subject. Almost whispered, almost spit. "Back off". Two words, says it all. I know who my money's on. :-)

1. Is that "back off, Glenn Beck" or "back off Glenn Beck"? |
|
I assume the former. But since some of us not get Maddow's show, it's be helpful to know.

2. It sounded like a warning for Gbeck to back |
|
off or he would regret it. She sounded as if she meant it. Angry even, or as angry as I have ever seen her.

3. It was "back off". I added the Glen Beck because it was clear who |
|
she was referring to. She did not say his name but the whole segment was devoted to him. I was trying to be careful not to misquote her.

4. Hey guys and gals got an idea |
|
we all know Beck is a piece of sh*t. Well why don't we get a picture of a big long t*rd and send it to him. And call it the t*rd to the t*rd campaign. Just see how many letters like that he will get. Someone should search out the address at Fox to send it to him. We send a picture because we don't want the real thing, never never never. That would hurt other people but if the whole world or most of it lets him know what they think of him. wouldn't that be nice. AND ON THE SHEET OF PAPER SAY "BESIDES WE DON'T WATCH YOUR SHOW, WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE FROM WORD OF MOUTH".

5. She's pushing his ego buttons, and giving him fair warning |
|
She's always armed with the truth and a plethora of facts. It should be interesting since Beck will probably not back off. His large gigabite ego won't allow it.

10. Say Good, Say Bad...Just Say... |

The old PR axiom and one that is a golden rule in broadcasting. Remember how O'Reilly ignored Olberman? It's a game out there where ratings trump all and nothing drums up the ratings than a good personality pissing match. Rachel may not have started it, but in it she is and seems to be enjoying the extra visibility it gets her.
Yep...I expect Dreck to go after her but that's fine. That will mean some will pop over to see what her show is all about and give her show a much needed boost.

8. I don't want to paraphrase the show but that segment was about |
|
him calling her a liar on his show. And him distorting what she said.

12. Then "Back off!" seems a timid come-back... |
|
...more likely to encourage Beck than to shut him down.

16. I think she was pretty forceful but I also think just engaging him in anyway |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 11:38 AM by izzybeans
is just going to encourage more back and forth on his end. She also hinted at accusing him of inciting his followers to violence given she mentioned receiving death threats from his fans who she thought had a weird and scary devotion to him.
I hope not though, last night was a surreal segment. There were three layers of them showing clips of each other on that segment.

9. Rachel not only told Beck to "Back off!" but gave him "the look" to end all looks. |
|
It was a "suggestion" to Beck that he'd be better off if he'd knock it off, as he probably doesn't want to see what else she could throw at him.
Rachel apologizes when she is wrong, but she doesn't back down when she is right. If anyone can bring him down, she can.
Go, Rachel.

11. Mr. Beck lies for a living, and people who do that are extremely vulnerable to exposure |
|
Rachel knows that - she could spend a half hour per night simply exposing his lies - and one would suppose that his attacks directly on her - rather than her words - may expose him to legal liability; in short is is possible that she, or someone else, may just sue the ass off the boy.

13. The stock and trade of those who are called on their lies |
|
and deliberate misrepresentations are ad hominem attacks and responses. They do not address the substance of what it said, that would require thinking and rational discourse, they attack the "messenger" personally.
Then, if you can goad him/her into defending him/herself, you have successfully diverted from the issue.
Rachel understands this, she is on to his bag of tricks and will not fall for personal attacks, when it is an empty bag she will still keep on coming.

15. I understand why she felt the need for this segment, however it was very surreal. |
|
She (1) showed clips of him (2) showing clips of her (3) showing clips of him.
Tonight perhaps he (1) will show clips of her (2) showing clips of him (3) showing clips of her (4) showing clips of him.
Tomorrow, if she continues this cycle, at what point does this all just become a big funhouse room of mirrors?
I get why she responded to him. He lied and edited her clips. But it was surreal watching her talk over him, talking over her, talking over him.
I think I have the order right. Is this the state of our political discourse? Sad. I think Maddow is a big time thinker and I hate that the state of things has dragged her down to a catfight with this douchebag. It's what he wants. It's his role. He is only there to distract people from serious matters.
