The same thing that happened to Carter and Clinton is going to happen to Obama |
|
I can see it coming. The constant negative drumbeat of the Reich-wing media machine, the failure of the Dems to grow a pair and fight back, weak leadership in the House and Senate, and decades more of Republican rule and thuggery all because we don't have an answer for the crap they throw at the wall.
I grow more disgusted with my party and politics every day. Four mores years and I can retire on the PUBLIC dole. Maybe it's time to begin planning for the rest of my life instead of wasting it on this useless garbage.

10. The problem with the Democratic Party is they have sided with monied-interests |
|
The moment you do that takes away the most powerful weapon you can use against your critics. Barack Obama ran on changing the game, then got in office and started playing it like everyone else. He didn't surround himself with strong progressives who would fight the smears and attacks (the way he did during his campaign). It was Clinton 2.0 from the beginning. By default, that was going to be a losing strategy. You can't make friends with the Republicans, they don't want to be your friend, they want to destroy you. I'm personally beginning to think the Democrats are only playing us...the American people. Both parties serve their corporate masters well.

11. Thank you for sharing your pessimism. |

You have enriched my day, and convinced me that further political activism is futile. You have no idea how much time and energy that will save me.
I will now take to my bed and spend the rest of my life watching situation comedies. I suggest you do the same.

16. Seriously. If you're that fed up with the Democratic Party, |
|
why are you even bothering to write here? What is your goal? Do you hope to discourage others from supporting Democratic candidates? Do you want everyone to just walk away from this struggle?
You can post barfing smilies all you like. I will still be here asking questions. What is your goal here. What do you want?
If you don't care any longer, then why not simply withdraw.

It seems to me that he wants to lead, but is being thwarted by both the Republicans and a few supposed Democrats.
One can lead, but not be followed. One cannot coerce and still be said to lead. Seems to me that your beef is more legitimately with Congress, rather than President Obama.

19. Obama Has A Problem Neither Clinton Nor Carter Faced |
|
The Republicans in the Senate are filibustering EVERYTHING. They won't even let small things, like meaningless appropriations bills, go through the Senate without a filibuster. There have been well over 300 bills the House has sent up to the Senate, and guess how many of them have gone through. NONE. And why? Because the Republicans have revealed their strategy. Kill EVERY bill we get by filibustering EVERYTHING, and then go out on the campaign trail and bash the Democrats for not doing anything. Label this Democratic-controlled Congress a "Do-Nothing Congress" and then do everything in your power to ensure that they CAN'T do anything.
I think it all became crystal clear as soon as Rachel Maddow did her piece on the embarrassing hypocrisy of the Republicans, whose only strategy seems to be, "If you're fer it, I'm agin it."
If the Democrats had a 24-hour-a-day scream machine like the right-wingers do, more Americans would know about this. But alas, since we can't even get the mainstream media to do their jobs, most Americans will continue to complain about the government that doesn't do anything to solve the problems of this country without realizing the actual reason WHY. And the only solution their minds will be conceive will be to "vote 'em out." Really, Democrats need to get a full-court media BLITZ going on the obstructionism that's going on. If they continue to do nothing but whine about it behind closed doors, we'll be right back to fighting an empowered right wing just to secure our basic rights (which they will then be clamoring to give away--trust me, if you think the rich got richer under Bush, just wait and see what a Republican-controlled Congress will do THIS time around).

23. What is the same thing that happened to Carter and Clinton? |
|
Clinton was re-elected to a second term, whereas Carter wasn't (thanks in some part to Ted Kennedy). Clinton knew how to roll with the punches, and when he was given lemons he made lemonade.

http://geraldplessner.com/articles/article.cgi?doc=20060925182653The truth is that what happened to Al Gore in 2000 involves many of the same players and tactics involved in the defeat of Jimmy Carter in 1980 --- that a Republican criminal conspiracy assured the victory of Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush for president and vice president of the United States. But like all things Republican, the story wouldn't be complete without a cover up.

28. The situations still seem totally different to me |
|
Carter and Clinton reacted differently to the opposing pressure, and there were different outcomes for their presidency. The main similarity I see is an organized opposition, but the dynamics are nothing alike because the two men are so different in their approach to leadership and the presidency.
