I'm willing to admit that Obama's good presidential attributes FAR outweight his bad prez attributes |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 04:13 PM by uponit7771
...relative to what America has had in the White House in the last 30 years.
That helps me be more willing to work with him as long as it takes.
Forrest are beautiful things...
Thx

Who said anything about worse? |
|
I think that so many of Obama's positive attributes create a bunch of enamored supporters who are too trusting and taken to really break things down on a policy level. Speeches, smiles, illustrated integrity, leadership, diplomacy aside, at the end of the day, the bills being passed are really what is going to matter. And if you are too focused on what is giving you a woody to care about laws that might leave you hanging limp, I see that as something to not be thrilled about.
But whatever. It doesn't really matter what I or anyone else thinks. The media narrative wins at the end of the day, so we will get to check that out in a year or two.

11. Oh well, yes, compared to one of the biggest presidential disasters in history, better |
|
But its suspect to have to dig so low to find a positive. Sure, Id find it better to drink vomit than eat shit, you know.
Now, Im not saying that all in reference to Obama. I only entered this thread to comment that positive attributes (which may not impact legislation directly) outweighing negative attributes doesn't automatically result in an acceptable governing situation.

12. No, compared (FACTUALLY) to the legislation that is progressive that has been pushed so far |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 04:00 PM by uponit7771
...comparing Obama to Bush is fallacious because Bush is one of the worst and comparing Obama to FDR or LBJ is fallacious seeing Obama doesn't have no where near 68 and 83% dem congress to deal with

Many people expected immediate change on all or nearly all the problems Obama talked about. We should keep in mind that there is a "learning curve" in this job like any other. Bill Clinton was written off in his first two years but turned out to be a very effective president. Certainly not perfect, but far better than anyone thought he would be.
Obama could well turn out yet in the "Great" category.

10. I believe the adults didn't expect immediate change just a whole different direction, looking at wha |
|
...the teabaggers say (if they even have a grip with reality) Obama has done the new direction thing in droves.

17. I'm quite happy with Obama ... |
|
... although I am getting impatient with a few things, for example civil rights for the GLBT community (DADT repeal, Right-to-Marry). I would have preferred no cuts in the space exploration budget. And I'm eager to see us OUT of our Bushwars.
And of course, we need radical overhaul of health care funding, but that's a problem that will require legislative action before Obama can take the next step.
So, overall, I am happy that we have a President with intelligence and the ability to interact with people. I do understand that in order to make changes, we have to keep a "creative dissatisfaction" alive. And there are SOME Obama bashers I won't blame -- gay people, for instance.
The whiners, though, will get no pity from me. It's up to US to do the footwork for Obama and the growing number of liberal legislators; we, too, have been slacking off. Even an action as innocuous as sending a weekly e-mail to one's elected officials in Congress will add a tremendous amount of energy to the effort.
Obama, though, is a winner. We ought to be actively supporting him; that way, he will be able to faster implement the changes we elected him to make.

To this point he has either met or exceeded most of my expectations.
He is on course to easily be the best president of my lifetime.
