My fiancee has been looking for a job for several months. She is a senior accountant with over fifteen years of experience. She found a job and was to supposed to start training today. It's a small flooring and remodeling business near my home. She was supposed to confirm that she would begin her training with an e-mail and phone call. She made the e-mail and phone call and neither was returned.
This economy sucks and the hardened hearts of people suck more.
There's a change a coming that's going to rock even the most complacent to their core. Whatever happened to a honest day's wage for an honest day's work.

3. That's really messed up! |
|
So sorry that the two of you are having to go through this.
And the media has the nerve to wonder why folks become "discouraged workers" and just give up looking? HELLO!!
My final straw was an interview for a job which I had all the right qualifications; the right degree, the right experience, glowing references, both personal and professional (they required both and really did call all of them!) etc.... .
It was pretty much a done deal, then nothing, silence... no return phone calls, just nothing.
About a week later, I received a letter in the mail. While they "thank me for my interest in wanting to work for their company", they are unable to hire me due to information obtained from my credit report! The letter went on to provide me with my "consumer rights" to obtain a copy of my credit report by writing to....etc....!!!!! WTF???? I felt like I was being turned down for a fucking credit card! It was devastating.
And the worst part was that the hours weren't exactly ideal (11am to 8pm, and no, it was not a customer service job, those hours just seemed odd to me), and the pay was a lousy $11 per hour. And for this they require a college degree??? Shit, I got paid more than that at the last temp job I had doing assembly work at a small printing company.
The ironic thing is that in a better economy, I wouldn't have even considered that particular type of job. But desperate times......yeah, they got us by the balls, and they are loving it!
Again, so sorry to hear that; hopefully, something better will come along.
Best of luck,
t.

4. We Can't Afford To Become Discouraged Workers |
|
We need to work.
So many people have damaged credit nowadays due to the bad economy one would hope it isn't as much of a factor.

6. Thank you! The economy is the reason my credit is damaged.. |
|
it's the new Corporate "Gotcha Game"! A lot of us are in the same boat; we go from good credit to bad credit pretty quickly.
I got lucky. I moved in with friends to a house with incredibly low rent. A year ago, I wouldn't have been able to afford to be a discouraged worker, either.
Best of luck to you both.

5. I think there could be a major groundswell coming, but as yet it is still just a minor ripple. |
