Its Fucking Pathetic That Every Single Network is Carrying Tiger Woods' Statement
Edited on Fri Feb-19-10 10:58 AM by MadBadger
Absolutely pathetic. I'm fine with ESPN covering it, and maybe a few cable networks. But blanket live coverage on ABC, NBC, CBS? So many important things these stooges ignore, but they go all out for Tiger Woods and his oversized sex drive? Bullshit.

as being 'fucking pathetic' for carrying it.

Thought that would be clear, mea culpa.

56. I'm watching re-runs of CSI on Spike
They happen to be showing a season I missed so it is all new to me. Since I have not watched CSI in prime time for years, the all day, every day re-runs let me catch up when there is no news coverage worth watching. Which is almost every day.

If the news people would give half the coverage to real stories, such as torture, the banks, health care, etc, as they have given to Tiger and other athletes mis-deeds, Americans would be so much better informed.

60. It should but reporters are lazy. They do not want to have to actually research
Our local DEC had a panel of Florida political reporters one time. The most senior said essentially the same thing - reporters are lazy. He said if we wanted stories covered, we - the DEC or the public - needed to put it together for them and give them the sources, the background, the facts and details. In other words, do their jobs for them.

And the Republicans and corporations do this - we might complain about news organizations parroting talking points, but this is WHY they do it. The reporters are lazy. Plus, few reporters have every had the budget either in time or money to really do the research needed for serious complicated stories. Add in the resistance to unpopular political views and we get what we have now - superficial coverage of the issues that most affect our country and our citizens.

10. Thank you. I was beginning to think I was the only one here who didn't give a shit about
Tiger's personal life.

For that matter, I don't care that much for watching golf either.

Now if they could cross golf with football and hockey.... THAT would be a sport that would be fun to watch.

Isn't hockey sort of a cross between golf and football, only on skates? Funny thing for me is that I love hockey, but can't stand golf, and don't care much for football, either.

19. Too Little, Too Late...
He should have come out this way in the first days of his scandal...now the impressions are set, the sides are drawn.

This is all about Tiger being able to go back to playing golf and salvaging whatever commercial value he has to himself and the PGA. While millions won't forgive him and many others won't care...for the golf world his absence is a big revenue loser and this is an attempt to turn the corner and open the door to his return in the Fall.

This thing looks like a candidate, not a human...and I really don't care. But its today's bright shiny toy...

He acknowledges what, a dozen paramours? With his access, his wealth, and his looks that's all he did? Any 2nd rank, openening act rock star can claim better than that.

Wilt Chamberlain (I think it was) claimed 20,000.

What makes this so important?

46. tiger woods is big business and therefore newsworthy
that certainly says something about how our culture is overly driven by hyped personalities and images, but it is what it is.

tiger had been a huge figure in the advertising world and how he handles this "scandal" has a major impact on his brand and therefore on his value in the advertising world.

this in turn has a big impact on businesses who have tied their fortunes to his image.

i would therefore put this sort of tawdry tripe in a different category than, say, michael jackson stories back when he was alive.

(do I really need to put a :sarcasm: tag here? I think I do)

Really, our Empire is clinically insane. It has been driven to it for a very specific reason - to replicate conditions necessary for great wealth concentration and what the Aristocracy is going to need to do to the other 99% of us once the shit starts hitting the fan.

These are the Good Old Days, make no mistake about it.
