If you didn't watch this weeks bill moyers journal |
|
You should.
We are really in deep water -- the best examples come from the Texas judiciary -- buying judges -- then the U.S. Supremes and chief justice Roberts voting record.

1. I don't think I've ever seen Bill Moyers more somber. |

He didn't have a very happy ending.
It made me ever so grateful that Alaska has judicial appointments rather than elections. Once they're appointed, they come up for retention periodically, but we don't have the politics involved.
Justice Roberts is a very dangerous man, and I think he should be impeached for lying during his confirmation hearings. It's obvious he had an agenda, and all that talk about following precedent was bullshit.

4. I watched it, "If this ruling isn't overturned, say goodbye to democracy" |
|
Those were pretty strong words and coming from Moyers they're even stronger.

6. I think he did a show on judges beholden to campaign contributors many years ago |

It made me very aware how important the rule of law is to a true democracy. We don't have one, just a facade. I'm glad Moyers is still serving America.

9. That is one of the scariest things I've ever seen. |

:(
If our judges are that thoroughly owned by those who can afford to buy them, just like our politicians are, and if the judiciaries are as corrupt as the legislatures, we are all royally fucked.
The general assumption, since the civil rights era, has been that we can count on the courts as a last ditch solution to help us make any necessary progress, not matter what the issue, if all else fails. But if the corporations own the judges, then that absolutely isn't true. The courts may be entirely closed to us. :(
