The opening salvo has been launched against education in Virginia. Governor McDonnell has repeatedly said he wants charter schools. At the same time he supports over $2 Billion in cuts to public education. Our "jobs governor" is effectively laying off 34,000 educators. He advocates for 15 year bus replacement standard which will make our children less safe on the road. He has cut technology funding which so our children will have to continue to learn using computers from 6-8 years a go.
If these cuts go through then my county will see high school classes that average 35, which means some will be over 40! Kids might have to pay to play sports to keep them funded. We're loosing all of our middle and high school reading specialists. Nearly all Instructional Assistants will be gone. Each school will be down to 1 secretary, so now those that are left will be doing the job of 2-3 people including monitoring who comes in the school. The quality of education will be set back decades.
We need all Virginians to help us out! We are having a rally at 11:00 on the Capital Square Grounds in Richmond on Saturday. The Teabaggers aren't the only ones who know how to rally. Our signs will even have correct spelling. We need all the people we can get there. If you live within driving distance, please come join us. Make your own sign (no stake though) and come rally with us!
