As you can see a variation of this ad can be found on the Orlando, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Gainesville, and Tampa Bay Craigslist. At first I thought they were casting a large net but every ad suggests the job location is in the area that the job is posted.

I know the personals are full of "pic collectors" but I think the job section is full of resume collectors.

There are so many hard working folks looking for jobs. There should be a special place in Hell for those for those who exploit them.

My fiancee is looking for an accounting job. She has fifteen years of accounting experience and has worked for large public accounting firms and real estate investment trusts. She has been looking since April. If anybody neeeds a great accountant let me know.

12. My Fiancee Had A Job That Required That Skill Set In LA
She was making $60K

In certain parts of FL a fair salary for that job would be $45 to $53K or thereabouts.

22. Done To Cheapen The Labor Pool
I had a boss who played this game...collect resumes of people who are more qualified for the position or asking for less money (yep, people foolishly include their salary "expectations" on resumes) which are then presented to a qualified candidate to get them to take less money. Make 'em feel like they're the lucky one out of 100 resumes when in truth 99.9% of those resumes are either bogus or people who wouldn't take the job.

4. I don't understand the scam..
.. please enlighten me.

Of course everyone knows that these are the only ads on craigslist that have to be paid for.

And BTW, I love craigslist, it has enabled me to easily sell off a lot of household items I don't need and don't want to take with me when I move. Fantastic!

9. I Presume It's A Scam
It seems odd that a company would have controllers or comptrollers in several different locations.

21. There's also a great deal of random capitalization of words that don't need capitalizing
which also suggests a posting by a person for whom English is not a native language.

Makes you wonder whether this "job" is similar to any of those money-laundering scams people are trying to get Americans snagged into--where they want you to "process accounts" by running their money through your bank.

14. Why would anyone "collect resumes"?
I don't get it.

My wife has been unemployed for most of the last year and is desperately looking for work. The worst things we have run into so far are people who quit their jobs, then beg for them back when they see how bad the job market is (causing the company to withdraw their offer to my wife before it's signed; this has happened twice) and the usual multilevel marketing schemes which are easy to spot.

If what you describe is a scam, please describe how the scam works for us who have a definite need to know.

18. Well, then it may not be a scam
Maybe the company has multiple offices, but they're networked and the controller can work out of any of them. That's not an unusual setup.

If I were a scammer, I can think of a lot better business models than trying to rip off the poor job-seeking unemployed. Basically, scammers are looking for the ripe "fool and his money" crowd.

20. Bingo! Foreign scammer at work.
The ad's wording is choppy, its misspellings are inexcusable, and its employment position is obscure. The ad is phishing bait being dangled by some foreign scammer. Flag it.

17. You are seeing an increase in work from home scams as well
There is an entire industry out there, which sole purpose is to take as much as possible from people who have just had a job loss.

Capitalism, gotta love it!

19. The ads on Craigslist for rental properties are almost as bad
My husband or I check them almost every day to see if we can find a place that is better than the hellhole we are currently in. When we see something in our price range we'll look at it. Almost immediately it's apparent that it's a scam or is for a company requiring payments to find you a place to rent. Very disheartening. Good luck to your fiancee in finding a job.

26. A relatively recent twist on scams is suggesting that someone may be hired....
and then requesting their personal information in order to do a background check. If they get 1000 resumes and only 1% fall for it, that's 10 identity theft victims for very little effort.
