What was Brian Williams MOST partisan question?
My vote goes to:

“A friend of mine who’s in the leadership of the Democratic party says that if the party goes down a third straight time, what will happen is what he defines as “modern day extinction” of the Democratic party. Putting yourself aside, perhaps, is there a winner on this stage tonight, and does your party have what it takes to reverse this trend and win the White House?”

In what Universe could this be accounted as a legitimate question?

Leaving aside for the moment that the Democratic candidate got more votes than the Republican candidate in three of the last four presidential elections. And the fourth was pretty close. AND leaving aside for the moment that the Democrats just won back both houses of Congress, are likely to retain congressional control in 2008, are far ahead of the Republicans in party identification in public-opinion polls, and won the popular vote in three of the past four presidential elections — what 'trend' points to 'extinction'.

This is worse than the worst kind of “push poll” that I have ever gotten during dinner from a seller of “time shares in Florida”. If Brian wrote this question he should be profoundly ashamed. If GE MADE him ask it, their corporate credentials should be rescinded, their assets stripped and their Board of Directors paraded naked through the streets.

That was a disgusting display of partisanship.

(My thanks to Crooks & Liars)

3. Sadly, Joe Biden didn't ask Brian to go pound sand.
"What a profoundly stupid question, Brian. Some people say that using unattributable comments like this make you look like a partisan hack."

4. Mine Goes With..."And How Is Everyone Tonight"...
Everything out of his piehole had some "gotcha" factor in it. He was gleeful with Tweety on how carefully he "and his unit" (insert phallic joke here) came up with the questions and how the format favored the moderator. He knew which buttons to press and that this debate wasn't to educate voters but to create soundbites and nuances that his network could show over and over again over the next couple days...creating their own story.

5. His questions regarding perception of Democrats
as not being strong on defense is another "push poll" query. This is nothing but an underhanded way to introduce repug talking points into the discussion. The questions most always involve a third party "friend" or 'poll".
Someone needs to teach the candidates how to identify and respond to these questions.

6. That was clearly a bullshit partisan smear and
it was stupid. We are near extinction? Odd that we just kicked the ruling party out of the house and senate. The "three times down rule" would be news to the Democratic Party from 1861 - 1932.

Why are these intra-party debates turned over to the corporate media anyway? The format is horrible, the 'moderators' are biased, and it simply makes no sense.

9. Did Fox "News" Write These Questions
When we were watching the debate, my husband said these questions sounded like they were written by Fox.

I thought the question they asked Obama about our friends in the world was so loaded. They were so obviously trying to trip him up on Israel. Obama handled it masterfully. I was even more appalled when Williams then asked some of the other candidates about our enemies. Why was Obama singled out for allies and the others for threats? Yeah, to try to do a "gotcha" on Israel and make him look like a Anti-Zionist Palestinian sympathizer. Again, Obama shone and didn't take his words being twisted by Williams.

It also bugged me that they only asked Richardson about Cuba. What, because he's Hispanic?

I hated that there were questions they only asked one candidate. In my opinion, they should have all candidates answer each question. Then maybe they could have had a round where each candidate got a different question, but the same number per candidate to keep it fair.

10. he did not prepare questions alone
I kind of half-listened to Tweety interviewing Williams and I think he was referring to a panel of people who came up with the questions. Just who was on that panel, I wonder? You can bet that all "panelists" were not equal so some heavyweight(s) got in this stuff. We need to ask who supplied this crap.
