I hope Bode MIller wins his fourth medal today. Love the guy |
|
always did. Love the way he skis. I've never seen anything like it. Could care less about his partying or comments dissing the Olympics. Could care less that practically everyone hates the guy. skiing is the only sport I've ever been passionate about, and anyone who knows anything about alpine racing knows that an athlete like Bode comes around rarely. Besides, he's a hippie kid. I always root for the hippie kid athletes.

5. and what people don't realize is that alpine racing |
|
isn't really all about the Olympics. Miller won the world cup only 2 years ago. That's a much harder achievement in many ways than winning an olympic medal. He hasn't just gotten it together. He's always been one of the greatest.

10. Just loving these Olympics |
|
I love when these great athletes in all these smaller sports get some deserved attention.
I never watch the Today Show; however I've been watching this week to see the olympic coverage. I couldn't believe how much time they gave to Tiger Woods the other day when they have exclusive rights to the Olympics. I could care less about Tiger's sex life. (Wow, an overpaid overexposed celebrity has affairs, who could imagine!)
Give me more of these great athletes that we only get to see every 4 years!

11. a little too jingoistic for me |
|
love the passion for the sports. i don't like hearing people around me keep up the "us vs. them" mentality. but that's just me

is sickening in its jingoism. I must confess though, I always root for VT athletes first and New England athletes second

He really has turned things around. I love Franconia, NH, where he is from. My father in law lives near there and we go every summer.
Hannah Teter is from VT, right? She was great to watch too.

19. Dh's grandmother who just passed away last night lived in Littleton for many years... |
|
one of our most favorite places to go on cheap vacations and the most amazing hiking around! Dh and I lived in Nashua for a few years, so NH is one of my favorite states. Great people, tell it like it is but leave you the hell alone.

We love it there. Great for little ones too with Santa's Village, Storyland and our favorite, Clark's Trading Post. And it is not expensive. We rented a little cottage there and it was a great price, it was peaceful and a great view of the White Mountains in Randolph.

14. I understand your point, but most of these people |
|
have worked so hard in relative obscurity to represent their country, to represent us in a way, that I love to cheer for them. Also, one of the reasons that I love the winter Olympics is that historically there have been so few events that the USA has been good at, they have to spotlight athletes from other places. At the summer olympics, if the USA is not in contention, the pretty much ignore that event.

I think it's too bad that one has to stay up until the middle of the morning to see some of my favorites, the sports requiring real physical discipline, dedication and endurance like cross country skiing especially the biathlon.I understand they're not as flashy as the alpine events and usually dominated by some small socialistic Scandinavian country.

13. I have to share this with you... |
|
...it's the video of Franz Klammer's 1976 gold medal downhill run: http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Video-Franz-Klammer-s-1976-gold-medal-run?urn=oly,217223I watched it live at the time, it was one of the most amazing things. We were sure he was going to take a spill -- heck, even watching it now my stomach gets tied up in knots. It was one for the ages.

The carves the skiers make are impressive as hell, and until this year I've never seen one up close in such detail.
