For Me, the Party Is Over

It took only the single tap of a computer key, and just like that I'd exited the Republican Party after 30 years of active membership. The context might sound impulsive, but I'd been thinking of becoming an independent for a long time. I just hadn't expected that a trip to renew my driver's license would mark the end.

2. I did the same back in 2001
when we moved down here to FL. Living up in NH for several years took it's toll on me, LOL!

I'm a champion of causes and people with progressive ideals, but as history has proven time and time again political parties quite often sell their souls to the devil for power and $$.

3. I know a retired party strategist
He's not a bad guy, just wrong. He became an independent last year after 33 years of being registered GOP and 20 years of working for them. I know many, many reasonable people who have dropped out of that party in the last five years.

Remember, decent people are allowed to be wrong. I also find it very useful to pick their brains to understand the mindset in that party. I'm sure they feel the same about me, although I'm more of an old labor socialist than a Democrat.

They've all agreed with me about Reagan's deal with the devil in 1980 coming to fruition with the devil taking the party over. That's why they all have left. It wasn't just 8 years of Stupid. It was 30 years of crazy.
