We The People, Inc.
After posting this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=7779179&mesg_id=7779179

I got to thinking: how absurd would it be to form a corporation of "our" own, we can call it "We The People, Inc" and compete with all of those big heartless bastard corporations that are destroying this country?

Would we eventually become the same thing we displaced?

Could we compete, if we didn't use offshore labor?

Could we compete, if we provided EVERY employee a living wage, and put a cap on executive compensation?

Could we compete, if we made sure EVERY employee had full health coverage and benefits?

Why or why not?

1. Not absurd at all
Basically you describe a co-op, a perfectly legitimate and common form of nonprofit corporation.

The chief downside is that enacting the other things you list generally increases costs significantly and will make it very difficult to compete on price.

2. Yes. Though I'd go LLC, and there exists already a brick, mortar & silicon based industry...

In exposing fraudulent claims and corrosive policies of corporate models that run counter to the shared goals of, actually, everyone - We The People

Would it work as just: People, LLC? Offering only here in that so many have such short attention spans. Otherwise, I can see 'them' saying, "Well dag nab it!! We're people too!!" Which of course they are to a certain extent; well alright 'they' are people too even if their longterm policies run contrary to everyone else but for their shareholders which are people too etc, etc, etc, and so there's a cascading-message-effect able to splinter that would need-be focused, nipped in the bud - that would be a set of bull horns you'd need to grab hold of going in

Off shore labor, living wages, CEO compensation and the like, implies some product or other. What would our product be?

I do not see the formation of such an endeavor as a displacement anymore than MoveOn displaced FOXnews. Though providing, hopefully, yet another educated, progressive (and you see how they've jumped on 'progressive' as the new eee-vil in that they've brunt the word 'liberal' to the ground and we let them without any push-back) foil to the willful, glutinous, wantonly disruptive corporate propaganda they peddle

And I see that as both a good thing *and* a product if that product's end result is to better the lives *of* We The People :)
