We should keep and know our history lest we are condemned to repeat it.

This is the problem the right wing has. They cannot swallow that Obama is an educated, intelligent BLACK man.

2. unfortunately the Civil War
did not end the obscene acts of a country, nor did the Civil Rights Act end the obscene acts of many people and we are still witnessing obscene behavior by some. It may not be legal to sell people openly anymore, but there is a lot of bartering behind the scenes.

6. two things.
1. No one is going to start up slavery in this country again.
2. A lot of horrible things went on before, during and after the Civil War. It was directed at black and white, soldiers and civilians. Put down the newspaper and generic history books and start looking in the old, rare book section of your library. Its more efficient and you'll be shocked and sickened.

Trying to use this as a platform for Obama? Obama has a high enough IQ that he doesn't need stuff like this as a reason to support him.

7. I didn't use it as a platform to support him
Rather a reason why he is hated so much.

8. Yes, he had to sell his property do to States NOT giving "Full Faith and Credit".
The good old "Full Faith and Credit" Clause of the US Constitution has been regularly ignored since 1787.

9. K&R
Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute there remains no being to improve and no direction is set for possible improvement: and when experience is not retained, as among savages, infancy is perpetual. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. In the first stage of life the mind is frivolous and easily distracted, it misses progress by failing in consecutiveness and persistence. This is the condition of children and barbarians, in which instinct has learned nothing from experience. ~ George Santayana, The Life of Reason, Volume 1, 1905

- One of the surest ways for something to be repeated, is to be lulled into believing that it can never happen. Or happen again. Or to forget that it happened at all.....

10. Lest we forget - we need a national monument against slavery - say a statue of an auctioneer selling
a young black child.

11. If you want to see a national monument against slavery
Go see the George Washington Carver Museum.

I repeat. The "slavery may return" argument is disingenuous and false.
