Tony Kornheiser SUSPENDED For Hannah Storm Comments

ESPN has suspended Tony Kornheiser "for some time" over comments he made about Hannah Storm's wardrobe.

On his radio show last week, Kornheiser mocked Storm for her "horrifying, horrifying outfit" on ESPN's "Sportscenter." Kornheiser hosts "Pardon the Interruption" on the sports network.

His comments:

"Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She's got on red go-go boots and a catholic school plaid skirt ... way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now...She's got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body ... I know she's very good, and I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won't ... but Hannah Storm ... come on now! Stop! What are you doing? ... She's what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point."

Last week, Kornheiser apologized for the remarks:

"I apologize unequivocally. ... I was wrong. This is sort of what I do, and I'm sorry for it. ... Not the first time and won't be the last time but I apology for it this time."

An ESPN spokesperson said Tuesday that Kornheiser will be suspended "for some time" from "Pardon the Interruption." ....

1. He's very popular here in DC. Sad to say, I agree with his comments. But he was the wrong guy
to make them.

That said, he's a comedian.
He did grovel over it, as well he should have.

But she does dress very inappropriately for the kind of work she does.

He's said the same things about John Feinstein.

2. Hopefully for good.
I can't stand Kornheiser and was thrilled when he took himself off of Monday Night Football. He is very knowledgeable about the sport, but he rarely has anything good to say about any player, team or a play. His negativity led me to simply skip a few games because I want to enjoy the game, not listen to some downer of a commentator.

Doesn't surprise me he went after Storm, smart classy woman, but I think he simply lacks the capacity to say anything nice about anybody.

7. I liked his Tweety comment while it is probably not true (MY vendetta aside)
Edited on Wed Feb-24-10 09:45 AM by UTUSN
But would STERN apologize? What about my man COLBERT with his shocking schtick with the Canadian-Indian fellow?

Taking it a step further, when Eric HOLDER is reversing himself on a decision or two, will the wingnuts ever let up on him?!1

So this KORNHEISER fellow, whom I'd never heard of until the Tweety comments, does not have the power over his creative decision-making. He might as well hang it up or just accept being whipped on forever.

20. I don't mind his radio show, but he never fit in on MNF. They
were never able to find a niche for him, so he was left with one liners and other quips that really did not add anything to the broadcast.

23. MNF takes itself too seriously. It's true TK didn't fit in. He was a better fit with Jaws. nt

30. I actually like Jaws. A vast improvement over Thiesmann, who in the last
his last couple of years became an annoying arrogant jerk.

And he didn't like it? C'mon Tony--what wrong with you?

9. It's fun stuff to wear, but not at all appropriate for her work. Brooks B outfitted TK for TV and
he admitted it.

He talks ALL the time about how ugly he is.

16. I'm not sure his "likes" are the point...I'm not big on balding men
with comb overs, but I wouldn't say it on TV or radio.

..guys can rip on other guys and it's all fine, but rip on a woman and all bets are off...:eyes:

Hannah Storm is next to useless as a sports reporter.

10. He's also a strong supporter of a lot of women broadcasters. He also notes how badly men
dress or wear their hair.

He's a comedian and gives it to both sexes for the same reasons.

11. definitely different rules
People are way more judgmental of a female professional with bad fashion sense than of a male professional with bad fashion sense.

12. That's what makes TK different. He rips on men for bad clothes and hair also. TK is actually
pretty progressive. One of the more politically progressive folks on radio.

17. Kornheiser's show just came on with comments about "lots of new listeners!" His co-host is usually
female.

He's talking about a new radio show with John Feinstein called "Two Live Jews."

He's talking about how he now has "time on his hands." He's going to the dermatologist tomorrow.

He's talking about The Hurt Locker (since he's got spare time this week). There is no chance on earth I'd ever watch this movie again. I've had enough of the Hurt Locker. It is utterly wrenching to your system. It's noteworthy ...that it's directed by Katharine Bigelow who has not been to war, and was James Cameron's 2nd wife. It's STUNNING the way it looks at war. Like folks said about Saving Private Ryan, it's something no one has seen anything quite like it.

It's spectacular. It's great.

18. LOL!1 - Ode to my faithfully stalking UnReKKKer!1

Dear One,

Guess what, not EVERY thread posted is worth EITHER a Rec OR an UnReKKK!1 And I myself said many times during the Great Debate on UnReKKK that I never look at the Greatest Page and regard it mostly as a tool for Visitors, like media types, who don't have the time to delve through the entrails of DU, but how I DO a lot of Rec-ing (obviously, for OTHERS), both for merit and to keep worthy topics from falling through the cracks.

Ah, you DISAPPROVE of thread after thread!1 Woe, WOE is you, YOU!1 Kisses to make your sour woe all better for you --actually, NOT!1
