In his first public comment about the massive safety crisis surrounding his company, the President and CEO of Toyota apologized to his customers for causing them so much worry.

"I am deeply sorry," said Akio Toyoda in a brief interview with the Japanese network NHK as he left his hotel in Davos, Switzerland. After the interview he was seen leaving in a black Audi.

Toyota Group (incl Lexus) sold 730,831 units in Europe in 2009, down 4.7 percent from 766,884 units in the prior year. Market share 5.0, down 0.2 from 5.2 in 2008. BMW’s and Daimler’s sales dropped 13.6 and 13 percent respectively. BMW’s market share fell to 4.9 from 5.6 percent, Daimler’s share dropped from 5.4 to 4.8 percent, allowing Toyota to overtake them.

14. Roughly 5% market share is not exactly what I would call an industry leader
But if you think that Toyota is a major player in Europe I guess I will let you keep thinking that.

Cuz I said so.

There are FAR more players in Europe than in the US. Think abut what you wrote, but than again, I wonder if you can comprehend this. Toyota PASSED Mercedes Benz (Daimler) in MARKET SHARE FOR ALL OF EUROPE last year.

A market dominated by small cars with diesel engines.

The Peugeot 207, Renault Clio, Volkswagen Polo, Opel Corsa, Ford Focus, Fiat Panda, Fiat Punto and Opel Astra round out the top 10 sellers in Europe for 2009. The lowest on the list, the Astra, sold 276,000 units, a 14.1 percent decline.

In brand rankings, Volkswagen topped the list again. Ford's 2nd place, a position it has rarely held, is a reflection of its exceptionally strong product range. The biggest gainer among the front-runners was Fiat, with a 7.0 percent uplift. The biggest loser was BMW with a 15.5 percent drop. Renault was in 3rd place, up 0.4 percent, followed by Opel/Vauxhall, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroën, Toyota and Mercedes.

You can Cuz all you want, school is out, goodbye.

Learn to comprehend the numbers.........

17. Toyota Group exceeded Mercedes-Benz in Europe. Ok. And?
Lets not forget the problems resulting from dissolution of the Chrysler/Mercedes "divorce."

And again, Cuz I can, 5% market share is not what I would call an industry "leader."
