Constitutional Amendment to guarantee health care
From
http://www.startribune.com/587/story/1147334.html

Intending to fuel the debate on health care access, Rep. Betty McCollum, D-Minn., introduced a constitutional amendment Thursday that would make health care a right for U.S. citizens.

...The amendment provides that "health care, including care to prevent and treat illness, is the right of all citizens of the United States and necessary to ensure the strength of the nation."

McCollum first introduced the amendment in September but is reintroducing it now partly because of increased debate over health care. Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., is co-sponsoring it.

Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-Ill., has been introducing a similar amendment since 2000.

Betty McCollum represents St. Paul, MN in the US House.

1. This is such a wonderful idea. It can be done. We need the
adults in health care to step up and the profiteers to get the hell out of the way.

3. Amendment
I think the amendment is incomplete. It should also specify that Congress has the responsibility to impliment via legislation. By defining a "right" does not mandate Federal or State Action. Also what about the millions of people in this country that are not citizens.
