28 April 07: Have you noticed any changes in your environment/weather? |
|
I have; it's been colder and crappier weatherwise here. Except today got hot, as per usual. And you?

3. What state are you in? That could apply to many states. |
|
Whatever, it's warming up quickly here, as it does, but it seemed to be a wicked winter. Meaning long. I always think it's great, as it means the hell of summer in TX will be shorter. That hasn't happened yet.

6. That's ski country, right? I'm very sorry to hear that. |
|
It has been weird; I know Seattle got kicked in the butt this year; you didn't get any of that? I always figure the weather goes west to east.

would swear to it! :silly:
The sun is the sun, the moon is the moon, and we just shouldn't mess with it imo. ;-)

8. More strong winds and hail in storms and more storms in |
|
general. We have been getting more and more tornado watches and warnings for the past 6 years or so too. We even had a snowstorm that had gale force winds. I live in an area that rarely gets snow too, south central part of NC. I hate strong winds.

10. our afternoon showers are gone |
|
i live in northern colorado. in the summer, we could count on brief rain showers each afternoon. this hasn't happened for several years. the winters have been warmer for several years (on the whole) and there has been less snow (but we did get dumped on this year). it is getting hotter earlier in the year (mid 80s in march and april is not right). we don't get thunderstorms like we used to.
the weather here is still unpredictable, but we don't get the variety we used to :(

11. Seasons are pushed back in time! |
|
I follow the seasons closely because I'm an avid gardener. I read somewhere (too lazy to find it) that one effect of climate change would be that the seasons would be pushed back, and that certainly happened this year.
We had green grass until January. First frost used to be in October or November. By the late 90s, first frost was sometime in early December. By 2000, first frost was around Christmas.
We had a 70 degree day in January 2007 in New York. Then we had winter! February and March were really cold, when in the past the environment would be warming by then.
My birthday is in early April, and when I was growing up, my birthday always more or less coincided with the blossoming of the maple trees. It is almost May 1st, and the maple trees are just beginning to blossom.
I used to try to get my tomatoes out by early April. If I didn't get them out until May, that was considered a really bad start. If I had put them out early this year they would have died, and I still haven't put them in.
There is definitely something wrong. The big local forest park here in Queens, New York, Cunningham Park, is visibly dying. Trees are rotting and falling over. I believe it's because of the weather.

14. My heat is still coming on at night |
|
because it won't get out of the 40s. It's almost MAY. I work an overnight shift and I am still wearing my winter coat at night. I owe my soul to KEYSPAN.

12. It's MI. Weather always changes. |
|
Rain yesterday late afternoon. Then it cleared and Venus was brilliant in the western sky just after dark.
Environment? Summer brings an increase in noise pollution due to subwoofers in vehicles and people running lawn equipment. Light pollution is increasing due to the spread of LCD billboards and signs. Dust pollution increases because of the sudden blooming of the perennial orange roadwork barrels. Where is Gore on these problems? Where is Michael Moore?
