Some numbers: $700 billion; $10 billion; 1.2 million |
|
That first number, 700 billion dollars, is the amount this Congress provided to Big Banking last fall when they said they needed it to survive. It took Congress less than a week and no one that I recall asked "Where is this money coming from?"
The last number, 1.2 million, is the number of American families that will be without income starting tomorrow. The legislation to extend unemployment benefits to these families calls for an additional 10 billion dollars, the middle number, and it is "stalled". You may be aware that Senator Bunning(R-Dogpatch), one ignorant and bitter old man, is blocking the bill to extend benefits. But, there are others in his party who, shielded by his "hold", are muttering questions about "Just where this money will come from".
I'll bet if anyone asked the unemployed people, they would say that they, too, "need the money to survive".
$700 billion for a handful of criminal banks? No problem!
$10 billion for $1.2 American working families? ------crickets-------
