Texas Republicans file "Voter Suppression Act"
If any of you think your Republicans are more corrupt, more hostile to voters, more mean spirited, than Texas Republicans then think again.

These people have no limits. After forceing a re-redistricting, they are not working to suppress the vote and suppress voter registration. More here:

If there was a way to leave this *ucked up, polluted, mean spirited, *sshole of the world, I would do it in a hearbeat.

2. It is not that easy.
Too much construction.

And schools.
And a little thing called work.

But.....there is hope in nov 2008.

Otherwise, this state really does suck and I have lived here all my life.

3. And yet, the people of this state keep electing them.
It seems the the majority of residents here favor shitty government.

It's getting better, but at a snail's pace.

4. I love my state
...and Austin, where I live, is cool. It's the only city in Texas, I believe, to ALWAYS and without exception, carry the Democratic candidate in the presidential election. Austin is full of hippies and high tech and universities and I love it.

I also love the beauty and diversity of nature and geology in Texas.

We've had some great politicians..Frances Farenthold, Gonzalo Barrientas, Lloyd Doggett, Ann Richards, etc.

We had/have Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower, etc.

...but a lot of the people...Man...scary, nasty and bad. Evil..pure Evil...Tom DeLay, Rick Perry, etc.

Fortunately, Bush was NOT really born here but we have some who make Bush look good. Well, nothing could make Bush look good but we have some who are even more Evil than him.

6. I've lived here my whole life...almost
I'm 53 and I came here when I was 15 and it's changed and some things are gone....much like with the rest of the world. ...but it's still very cool and the neighborhoods are the same...Hyde Park, University Hills, Barton Springs neighborhood, Terrytown, Brykerwoods, etc....and the cool places...UT, Zilker Park/Barton Springs, Dry Creek Saloon, Japanese Gardens, Threadgills, Shultz's Beer Garten, Antones, the Drag, Stubbs, Rues Antiques...and cool events, SXSW, Eeyore's Birthday Party, Spamarama...it's all still here. I wouldn't live anywhere else.

Is there some point to your post? Are you trying to make me feel badly because I love being where I am? I really don't get it.
...but hey! Good for you. I'm also glad you left.

14. Yup.
Got here in '76 after HS graduation and would not consider living anywhere else in Texas. Of course, being a techie AND a musician... where the hell else would I want to be.

If I do ever leave... you'll find me on some mountain in NM as far away from the rat race as I can get...

9. El Paso is also dependably Democratic
Don't forget them. I don't know how Austin proper voted that year, but in 2000 Travis County went for Bush, El Paso County for Gore.

12. As I said
Austin has NEVER not gone for the Democratic candidate. Not ever. Travis county used to be that way also but alas...when supposed homeboy who ISN'T, ran for president, that changed. Blech.

Good for El Paso!

11. This says a lot about what they think of their prospects
They realize that Texas is not as reliably Republican as it used to be, so they have to resort to tactics like this. Democrats picked up two Congressional seats in the state, so that obviously has scared them too. In the next decade or so, the Republicans aren't going to be able to rely on Texas as a safe state, because the climate is slowly, but surely changing to that of a swing state.
