Everyone is all excited about Tobias & the hookers. Not to mention the DOJ politicizing the prosecutors. Bush & Cheney improvising on the WMD issue. And of course any number of other examples in which our leaders seem to act in ways that diverge from the way the rest of us are supposed to act.

Well, Goddamit, get this, and get it RIGHT. Rules are administrative devices intended to keep the sheep in line. They do not apply to rulers and their designees. Running a country (into the hole) is hard work. It would be a whole lot harder if you actually had to follow rules while doing it. To paraphrase Cheney's daughter, the whole point of having power is that then you don't have to follow rules.

Rules, as Leona Helmsley remarked about taxes, are for the little people.
