That DC Madam scandal may be just the ticket. LOL!! |
|
I've been thinking about this. After all the careful research everyone has done, all the proposals to clean up the corruption in DC, this may just be what does it. If Miz Julia shines light on the cockroaches, that cesspool in DC may just clean up as they scurry away. We may stand a chance out here. Miz Julia would be truly deserving of a Medal of Freedom.

4. At the risk of sounding cynical, the DC Madam scandal will clean up DC about as much as.... |
|
.... the Mark Foley sex scandal. It'll make a spleash and three or four guys will lose their jobs. And become lobbyists making five times as much as they did before. And the rest of town will get back to business as usual.
Sex in the news is always a distraction, never a solution

6. I think this will seriously blow up in the face of BushCo |
|
The first thing they will try and do is mention Clinton. And yes, I think they are that stupid. This will result in a MAJOR backlash as people WILL remember the oh-so-holy Republicans goings after Clinton and will NOT react well to the hypocrisy.
Also, the fundies will start speaking in tongues when they find out their "deeply committed to Christ" lawmakers are poking it on the side, and worse, PAYING for it.
Oh, what will they tell the children?

If it comes out that one Democrat - just one - partook of the Madam's services, hate radio will be on it like white on rice, and before you know it the new meme will be that Democrats hire hookers.
It doesn't matter if every Repub in Congress is in her datebook and every Repub congress-critter's spouse was turning tricks - all we'll hear about is that one Democrat who couldn't keep it in his pants.
Call me cynical.

16. Your not the only one. I have seen the right wing already started saying that the DC Tobias thing |
|
isn't as bad as what Clinton did. Never mind that what Clinton did wasn't illegal, remember it was republicans who made police stings using decoys legal, or that it was consenting adults, heck the right even tried to spin it as being equal to child molesting because of Monica's age. Then theres the matter of a democrat stepping down from her position on a committee because of conflict of interest with the committee and her husbands business. The right tried to spin it as being as bad as Duke Cunningham bribe taking and demanded she was charged with a crime, though unlike Duke the democraticc member of congress actually did not break any laws.
It's the republican way, no matter what republicans do, the democratics did worse. The sheep buy into it and have since Hoovers days. Only our grand parents and great grand parents saw and smelled it for what it was republican BS.

22. frankly, I would be surprised if this service |

was partisan in nature (ala only servicing republicans). And you are right - the rwingers will use that to stifle the coverage of others.
That said - it would be a hoot if one or more of the House Managers was "on the list."

28. Now Would You Feel Upset If It Were A DINO? |
|
I'm with you on this one...surely the only demonination the good madame cared about were the folding green variety.
Atrios nailed this one in saying that if this involves two consenting adults, it's none of our business (call it "market principles"), but if it's a hypocrite, let's have some fun. So far two regime names have dripped out...if you recall, when she first came out, no one wanted to talk to her, now she's got gold. I hope she lets loose a new name every couple weeks...really keep us entertained. And if it's a Democrat...so be it...if its one who has climbed on their morale high horse, has compromised himself or just plain got caught lying...they deserve the same treatment a Repugnican gets. Hypocrites also don't have a partisan label.
What I'd really like to see is a top name stenographer's name...a Russert or Kristol or one of those goons who are beyond "scrutiny" through their press passes. This may be the only way we can root out some of these bad weeds.
Cheers...

|
I'm not gonna hop into the flame war about the ethics of prostitution, i'll just look at it from the typical beltway fashion...as business. Now if she were to "unconsent" would that mean a rebate to her customers? That'd be fun just watching to see if anyone dared to collect.

It could be every Republican in Congress the last 30 years in this "book" - but, if there was one Democrat in the book with these 800 Republicans, it will be enough for the media to label it a bipartisan scandal.

31. The Duke Cunningham/Hookergate scandal got little traction |
|
It was news for about 3 days - hookers operating out of the Watergate (yes, that Watergate) were being used to trade political votes for sexual favors. Even Joe Scarborough was up in arms about it...
but, the story died fairly quickly.
