is this your first time watching the show? Because if it is, it may not make sense.

9. 1) Yes it IS the first time and
2) It makes more sense than anything else I've seen on TV except Olberman, Stewart and Colbert.

We finally get a chance at a mainstream megaphone and you CRAP ALL OVER IT?.
Where am I (looking around furtively, wondering if I've wandered into some alternate universe)

I think you misunderstood, I was trying to figure out why someone would not like the show, and that possibility came up. I love the show, Stephcast even.

edit: I was responding to Bombtrack.

15. I have to admit I haven't seen her before today, but she is
having fun, and really lights up the place.

One cannot expect every sentence to be a clever quip, but after the very few times I happened upon Imus droning on for what seemed like decades in just a minute of two, Stepahie is a breathof fresh air.

For those who don't care to listen to her, don't; no sweat.

Like all shows, there will be good and bad segments....:)

18. Emailed both (Viewer Services & Abrams). You should too!
About 5 minutes after the show started.

For Abrams, this is "audition time", he's looking for someone to fill the Imus slot. I say let's do a DU rally, and email MSNBC in support of Steph. We've got Keith in the PM, let's make sure we have a "liberal" voice in the AM too.

This is a chance, a small one mind you, but nonetheless a chance to change cable news media from the right to the left. Every journey of a 1,000 miles begins with a single step. Let's try to make getting Steph permanently in that slot that first step.

22. I think she is doing great. Working out a few kinks but the show is
really coming together. Just the thoughts of reichwing world's head exploding this morning is enough to want to see her every day.

Think we had better flood MSNBC with supporting emails. As we speak the freeper world is organizing a email campaign in protest. They can't let a good, funny left wing radio host go unchallenged.

20. She is on my "future wife list"
Her show is kinda quirky; a lot of the "bits" get funnier with time - some frequent "rimshot" lines, etc., which a regular listener gradually falls in love with

Jim Ward's imitations are much better on TV; he does facial expressions and gestures too!

One final comment - the way she was talking last week it was quite clear she was thrilled with this opportunity - and nervous as hell. She even joked about needing to stuff a couple of kotex in her armpits. So don't judge too quickly.

They are also obviously tempering the humor - some of their typical material is not exactly sesame street caliber - remember the post here a few weeks ago complaining about the vaginal stretching bit? I expect as they settled in and got comfortable within the adjusted boundries it would only get better - and I am loving it now.

48. Different Medium's
I love Steph, but there is a reason that "Morning Zoo" type of radio is generally not simocasted for TV. She has stated that she wants to stay in radio, and this could be a prelude to having video streaming for StephCast subscribers. Plus, her show wouldn't be as good because it would have to be PG rated, not borderline R.

47. I have never been able to understand that
I mean, I know they can GET them, but they really cannot be meaningful. Viewership of ANYTHING is based on

(1) advanced hype
(2) word-of-mouth and reviews
(3) returning (presumably) satisfied viewers

Neither 2 nor 3 is applicable to the very first show of ANYTHING! For example there was a poorly-rated Superbowl that was a great football game, but not major market teams. So nobody tuned in, and only afterwards did they learn it was entertaining after all.

Steph might have a bit of an advantage in the (1) categoy since she has loyal radio listeners who got the advance notice.

The reason MSNBC is doing three-day "auditions" with an option to extend to five is just that. They cannot tell anything based on one day. Not even three, really. I expect they figure if a candidate has not self-destructed in three or otherwise proven unacceptable, they'll fill out the week. The three just gives them a chance to yank them without making an issue of it.

If they extend to five we know the response has not been totally awful. I expect the ratings on day 4 and 5 would be the most meaningful.

And of course the feedback is of some merit. They can make a judgement that a candidate's ratings have a prospect of improvement based on the volume and tenor pro and con. So "keep those cards and letters coming" *

*Who can identify that signoff expression?
