Olmert braces for Lebanon probe

Israel's prime minister and defence minister are expected to face harsh criticism from a committee of inquiry examining the Lebanon war in 2006.

PM Ehud Olmert is expected to face charges of haste in going to war, according to leaks from an interim report to be presented later on Monday.

--snip--

Mr Olmert's aides have been preparing his defence, arguing that the entire cabinet backed the move to war, and saying he is willing to implement all the committee's recommendations.

This sounds familiar. :sarcasm:

1. I'm watching with interest
The criminals now rule our planet.
Meanwhile I can't help wondering if Sharon will 'recover' and take over.

4. Good.
I hope that the stupid idiot gets thrown out of office; and that someone with a bit more sense takes his place. (Referring to Olmert; could also apply to Bush!)

5. Bush backs Olmert after probe
http://www.jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/breaking/101497.html

The White House spoke in support of Ehud Olmert after a commission of inquiry censured the Israeli prime minister's handling of last year's Lebanon war.

Asked how President Bush regarded the Winograd Commission report issued Monday, White House spokesman Tony Snow said, "Well, obviously he works very closely with Prime Minister Olmert and thinks that he's essential in working toward a two-state solution. The president remains committed to it. We're not going to comment on, obviously, internal investigations within the Israeli government."

7. Typical BushCo: "haste in going to war, short-sighted, consistently pursuing wrong tactics/strategy
Since we all know that it was actually a BushCo Production - they planned it and helped them strategize this isn't surprising. Sounds just like all the other things that Bush gets involved with.

Too bad we can't send Bush over to run Al-Quaida - they'd go belly-up in a few months.

PM Ehud Olmert is expected to face charges of haste in going to war, according to leaks from an interim report to be presented later on
His defence minister, Amir Peretz, is expected to be censured for being inexperienced and short-sighted.

The BBC's Tim Franks in Jerusalem says, while Mr Olmert's coalition may survive the damning report within parliament, he is dealing with unprecedented levels of unpopularity among the Israeli public.

Former chief of staff Dan Halutz, who has already resigned, will be blamed for consistently pursuing the wrong tactics and strategy, it is thought.
