TOMORROW - WHAT YOU CAN DO
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/letstatesdoit

Sorry for the caps, but it appears that the media is saying Kucinich might be the person responsible for the defeat of health care reform.

Many politicians promised not to support a bill that did not include a robust public option.

The afterdowning street link above lists the members of Congress who voted for the Kucinich amendment in committee, you can call, email or fax them and ask that they promise not to vote for the bill unless it contains language which would allow states to enact a Single Payer Bill.

In my humble opinion he needs our support as he has cast too many votes that run contrary to what the prominent leaders of our party have supported.

Never take anything or anyone for granted, when I looked back at the support McKinney had before being ousted it was about the same percentage as Kucinich had in his last election. It only takes one incident blown out of proportion and some money to remove a voice for the people.

Thanks for reading.

:)

What, that Kucinich will simply end up being a grandstanding bystander?

6. Why bother answering your hit and smear posts as you never answer
anyone who dares question your "facts"

Kucinich ended up being right on many of his votes, but you had nothing to say in that thread.

Re: Kucinich ...

Why ignore the fact that the administration Suddenly Realized the bills being promoted did Nothing to stop premium increases.

Gosh ... everyone seemed to wake up in the last few weeks, what else is lurking that they missed???

The Iraq War continued without him, the Financial Services Modernization Act continued without him, the new FISA bill continues without him, the Patriot Act continues without him, China Trade (MFN) continues without him and the infrastructure bill he introduced every year for the last decade has been ignored by most of the Dems.

There are many votes where he stood in opposition to the majority of the Dems, that does not mean he was wrong in the long run.

11. Well heck, you and I go way back, even back to the times
When we were among the few (and the proud) who knew something was wrong with the election machinery.

I luckily vibed that staying away tonight would be good. And realized if I followed you I would stay feeling safe.

Tonight even the paid trolls are up past their bed time, did ya notice?

it is almost like another universe.

Yup, smart move on your part to stay away.

I do hope people decide to try and rally some for Dennis, otherwise one day he will be gone and it will be too late.

13. Thanks for this.
I think DK is solid. I've been in contact with many of my relatives who live in his district and they all support his decision. These are salt of the earth working people all across the political spectrum and they think his stance is the right one which tells me the party won't be able to lay a glove on him.

'you don't know what you've got til it's gone.'

That is what scares me this time around.

You're welcome.

15. At this point I agree with him. Public Option, or seperate the regulation and pass it seperately.
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 04:54 AM by Go2Peace
I am all for HCR. But without the Public option we just move the misery down the road. If they can't get the public option HCR is Not completely dead, only the corporate welfare version is dead.

There is no reason that someone cannot offer a bill with all the roundly popular regulatory and anti-trust components. That includes stopping pre-existing clauses, making insurance cos honor insurance fully (removing the arbitrary caps they use to deny), making insurance companies provide preventative care, stripping their monopoly rights, etc. These can all be done seperately

We are being forced into a false choice. There are other humane options. We pass the appropriate regulatory provisions and then continue the fight without giving away the farm.

The talking points that this is the way it has to happen is a LIE.

This is a POLITICAL solution, not the only viable solution, and not the best solution for the country. And certainly not the only solution that can provide relief for families, even though they want you to think it is.

It is time for everyone to step up to the plate. I have no doubt Kucinich is forcing the Public option. Once it is there he will fall in line. No Public option = No corporate welfare. Pass seperate regulatory reform without it and continue the fight.

16. It is very disappointing to be told it has to this bill or nothing, then
can make it better, it just might offend those who profit by denying care.

17. Ask These Reps to Oppose Healthcare Bill Unless States Rights (Single-Payer) Language Restored
"...What if there were something far less controversial than the public option that could bring healthcare to far more people? And what if this something had already passed in committee and been unceremoniously stripped out of the bill without a fight? Would it be worth a winnable fight right now to put this measure back in?

When the first state passes single-payer healthcare, none of the other 49 states will lose anything they've gained through Congress. But the lucky state whose legislature tries to do something more won't see any immediate benefit, because the insurance companies will sue. And there are federal laws that may allow such suits to prevail and deny states the right to provide their residents with healthcare...

What we are asking for: Please oppose the health insurance reform bill unless the amendment you voted for and passed in committee last July 17th is reinstated, permitting states to enact healthcare reforms if they choose to.

But these 14 Democrats voted yes in committee on the Kucinich Amendment:
