signed into law: Utah: if you have a miscarriage it is now against the law
March 9 2010
Contrary to media reports last week, the "Criminal Homicide and Abortion Amendments" or HB12, which previously also applied to miscarriages caused by "reckless" acts, was never "withdrawn" by its sponsor, Republican Representative Carl Wimmer (who is crafting similar "model legislation" for other states). After the governor expressed concern over "possible unintended consequences," of the legislation as written, Rep. Wimmer swiftly introduced a new version, titled "Criminal Homicide and Abortion Revisions" (HB462), which omitted the word "reckless." Gov. Herbert signed the new bill and vetoed the old one.

1. Ah we have joined several Mexcian states in this
such as Chiapas.

Or for that matter El Salvador, a model of progress, or I don't know Nicaragua... a lefty paradise where women have few rights...

Just goes to show the religious inspired nuttery does not respect languages or borders or so called political ideology.

Oh and on Nicaragua, women who joined the Revolution because of that... feel betrayed by their former comrades in arms, and rightly so.

2. What the....??????????????
We are still passing legislation which seeks to criminalize women for their actions,” Marina Lowe, legislative and policy counsel for the ACLU of Utah, told AlterNet. “The language is still problematic.”

The LANGUAGE is still problematic???

Utah's legislature pisses me off on a regular basis. Most of them need to quit and go home.

9. This is bad news for the Utah ski industry!
They are going to have to change all those glossy vacation brochures to read "Pregnant women ski at the risk of going to prison".

In fact, maybe the state should start imprisoning pregnant women for just doing risky things like jogging or skipping.
