Keep In Mind: Kucinich Voted AGAINST The Public Option
THE Public Option the House Passed, the bill most of America supports (84% of MA voters and 72% of all Americans). He didn't vote against the Senate bill. He voted against the HOUSE BILL.

Kucinich voted against it because it wasn't single payer. He reaffirmed that he would vote against that very same bill today on Countdown.

This man is not a progressive. He is not a liberal. He is in this to kill Health Care Reform.

Rep. Grayson did not vote with him.
Rep. Grijalva did not vole with him.

Kucinich would kill the very Public Option that the Progressives in the House worked very diligently on and are working on getting 50 Democrats in the Senate to support through Reconciliation.

For every Democrat in the Senate who does not vote for Reconciliation on the Public Option, you can fully blame Denis Kucinich.

Seriously these Kucinich bashing threads are out of control.

They all stay open too... which is odd considering threads that are critical of some DINO thug like Rahm Emanuel or Arnie "No public school left behind" Duncan are usually zapped within minutes.

If we can't get single payer, the 31 million Americans that would be helped by the PO can just get sick. and die.

LIke it or not, the House bill is THE PO. There is no better PO, that is the one. By voting against it, Kucinich declared he is single-payer-or-die. The truth hurts.

Title III, Subtitle B: Public Health Insurance Option.

If you are claiming this isn't a "robust" Public Option, then you've bought hook, line and sinker into the anti-HCR propaganda.

This PO was supported by the Progressive Caucus. The ONLY member of the Progressive Caucus who didn't vote for it was Kucinich. He must be so far progressive he voted with the blue dogs, the DLC and the GOP.

12. More consistent that Obama
He's sticking to his guns. I tend to find him a tad strident most of the time, but you have to admit he's been far more consisten that Obama. Obama was for single payer, until he claimed it wouldn't work. He was for a public option, until he decided it wasn't necessary. He was against the cadillac tax, until he was for it.

I've never agreed much with Kucinich, but you know where he stands and what he believes in. He believes this won't work and that we need single payer. He believes doing all this other stuff is just so much kabuki theater. I'm not that hard over, but at least you know that tomorrow he'll be saying the same thing.

26. I'm not a big DK supporter
But he's getting hammered here for taking a very consistent stand. Obama is getting a pass from alot of folks around here despite making statements like "I didn't campaign on a PO". He can wordsmith what he said all he wants, but he definitely campaigned on SOMETHING about a PO and he'd have a boat load more credibility with the folks if he'd just come out and say that he gave up.

24. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Democratic Party, led by the DLC, has sold us down river
to the insurance companies, and you're still blasting Kucinich. Yawn.

If he's so insignificant and the bills will pass without him anyway, why are you so adamant about knocking him?

Oh, I know. It's to discredit anyone who doesn't play nice with the corporatists. It's not enough to defeat the populists and the will of the majority of Americans. You have to grind their faces in the dust.

27. I'm so sick of these posts
I could fucking puke. Your posts on health care are dishonest and myopic.

From Kucinich webpage:

“We have been led to believe that we must make our health care choices only within the current structure of a predatory, for-profit insurance system which makes money not providing health care. We cannot fault the insurance companies for being what they are. But we can fault legislation in which the government incentivizes the perpetuation, indeed the strengthening, of the for-profit health insurance industry, the very source of the problem. When health insurance companies deny care or raise premiums, co-pays and deductibles they are simply trying to make a profit. That is our system.

“Clearly, the insurance companies are the problem, not the solution. They are driving up the cost of health care. Because their massive bureaucracy avoids paying bills so effectively, they force hospitals and doctors to hire their own bureaucracy to fight the insurance companies to avoid getting stuck with an unfair share of the bills. The result is that since 1970, the number of physicians has increased by less than 200% while the number of administrators has increased by 3000%. It is no wonder that 31 cents of every health care dollar goes to administrative costs, not toward providing care. Even those with insurance are at risk. The single biggest cause of bankruptcies in the U.S. is health insurance policies that do not cover you when you get sick.

“But instead of working toward the elimination of for-profit insurance, H.R. 3962 would put the government in the role of accelerating the privatization of health care. In H.R. 3962, the government is requiring at least 21 million Americans to buy private health insurance from the very industry that causes costs to be so high, which will result in at least $70 billion in new annual revenue, much of which is coming from taxpayers. This inevitably will lead to even more costs, more subsidies, and higher profits for insurance companies — a bailout under a blue cross.

“By incurring only a new requirement to cover pre-existing conditions, a weakened public option, and a few other important but limited concessions, the health insurance companies are getting quite a deal. The Center for American Progress’ blog, Think Progress, states “since the President signaled that he is backing away from the public option, health insurance stocks have been on the rise.” Similarly, healthcare stocks rallied when Senator Max Baucus introduced a bill without a public option. Bloomberg reports that Curtis Lane, a prominent health industry investor, predicted a few weeks ago that “money will start flowing in again” to health insurance stocks after passage of the legislation. Investors.com last month reported that pharmacy benefit managers share prices are hitting all-time highs, with the only industry worry that the Administration would reverse its decision not to negotiate Medicare Part D drug prices, leaving in place a Bush Administration policy.

“During the debate, when the interests of insurance companies would have been effectively challenged, that challenge was turned back. The “robust public option” which would have offered a modicum of competition to a monopolistic industry was whittled down from an initial potential enrollment of 129 million Americans to 6 million. An amendment which would have protected the rights of states to pursue single-payer health care was stripped from the bill at the request of the Administration. Looking ahead, we cringe at the prospect of even greater favors for insurance companies.

Anyone against the privatization of health care IS a progressive in my book. Those who are for this piece of shit bill are fascists. Truth hurts, eh?

28. So the entire progressive caucus must be insurance shills then? Ridiculous.
Kucinich stands alone on his opposition to the Public Option that the House passed. He has sided with the GOP and the DLCers.

He should be primaried out of his seat. He was not elected to shoot down HCR.

Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 11:53 AM by bigtree
Where in the Senate version is that public option the Progressive Caucus members narrowly supported in the House bill contained?

It looks like voting for the Senate bill kills the public option (until it's revived in some form or fashion later.

What a joke this thread is. You couldn't care less about a public option and you know it.
