If Health Insurance Companies really wanted the Senate Bill... |
|
this is what they would do:
They would buy a series of TV commercials that said:
"We, the Insurance Industry love this bill. We love the weak regulations and we especially love the mandated new customers. But we're afraid that a few "Liberal" Congress people will block passage. So we implore you to pressure these Congress people to get with the program and pass this bill!"
Yep, that's EXACTLY what they would do. They would never feign weak opposition because, well, that would be dishonest.

2. And they would never, ever, spend money on lobbyists to work *both* sides of |
|
the issue to ensure the best outcome for themselves no matter what happened with the legislation because that would be a poor business practice. :sarcasm:

7. Look it is all reverse psychology... |
|
They know we progressives oppose them. If they say they like the bill, we would see it for what it is.
So, they put together a plan to defeat any form of Health Care bill. (See Rachel Maddow 3/08/2010)
They fund the Tea Party and Tea Party demands we kill the bill.
They spend Three hundred+ million and counting to defeat any form of health care.
They set their Republican surrogates to defeat health care and then create a Republican plan to run in November on a Repeal the Health Care Bill Ticket.
It is all a reverse Psychology ploy, you know, Like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Elmer Fudd in Rabbit Fire.

8. Three hundred+ million to defeat the bill...or to write the bill.... |
|
I think they threatened to flex their influence so that they could spin the bill to their liking. (There are other corporate players and the current bill is a compromise between the Hospital Industry, the Insurance Industry, Big Pharma and other misc. corporate interests.) But, in the long term, Big Insurance knows they need mandates if they hope to maintain a less aging customer base.
And the Tea Party, as we're seeing, is being used to FAR more that just "defeating healthcare".
