Rachel Maddow lays it on the line about Bart Stupak...
Edited on Wed Mar-10-10 09:17 PM by Atman
Who paid your rent at C Street? Why won't you tell us? Did you report the rent subsidy to the IRS as an in-kind payment? On and on...

I wish I could recount all the details Maddow laid out about what Stupak's anti-abortion language would REALLY do. I'm sure the video will be posted soon. Brilliant tv. Maddow shows that there really are still journalists asking serious questions.

7. If you're going to go to bat for the guy, at least spell his name correctly.
Just sayin'.

He may think he'll win the "I wan't to rule your life" vote -- until people realize that he is offering them false, bullshit promises which have absolutely NO bearing on their lives...or anyone else's. There is absolutely no way anyone can get a federally funded abortion. None. Period. And Maddow is helping getting that message out. When we start doing anti-Stupak advertising and telling his constituents what a disingenuous, lying, cultist sack of shit he is, well, then we'll see who turns out to vote.

3. Yes, she's one of very few investigative journalists left...
And I agree with Michael Moore about Stupak wanting to impose his religious belief on everyone.

Obviously the guy was one of Stupak's staffers or something. Or just another mole (was the misspelling of Stupak's name a deliberate, desperate attempt to sound legit?). His only comments were about Michael Moore's complexion and Stupak's strong support in his district.

Epic fail. Didn't even make it to 20 posts.

(BTW -- this is supposed to be a reply to #11)

13. Okay, I'm going to step out on a limb here as a former landlord and say Stupak may not be subsidized
A landlord can charge anything they want to any tenant. The people who own the C-street house may own it free and clear, and have the means to pay the taxes. So they rent the facility to cover the maid and meals. They can do this. Nobody has to "rent" anything for a profit. In fact, the owners' "profit" may be much more intangible than money.

We should be focusing on who owns that house, and why they "rent" it so cheaply to people to extort their vote when they want.

Stupak isn't under any obligation to explain his cheap rent. But his landlord should be on the hot spot. THAT would more truly focus on Stupak's vulnerabilities imho.

14. Oh, puh-leeze.
I get what you're saying, and in any normal circumstance I'd accept your point. But come on...what do you think was going on here? The guy lived in a rent-subsidized cult compound with a bunch of cultists for eight years, and didn't have a clue where he was or who was subsidizing his rent? Or why? The smell test is pretty tough for Stupak to pass here.

18. You're right - but providing anything below fair market value to a Congressman
has to be reported by the Congressman as a gift or donation - because it always leaves them open to influence - similar to a bribe.

I wonder if the FBI or DOJ is looking into this.

16. While I applaud the efforts of those
who seek to hold congresscritters to task, how many people actually reside at this particular residence? And how much does it cost to maintain the place, so that it can be accurately ascertained just how much the "benefit" is?
