Doubling of maternal deaths in U.S. 'scandalous,' rights group says

(CNN) -- Deaths from pregnancy and childbirth in the United States have doubled in the past 20 years, a development that a human rights group called "scandalous and disgraceful" Friday.

In addition, the rights group said, about 1.7 million women a year, one-third of pregnant women in the United States, suffer from pregnancy-related complications.

Most of the deaths and complications occur among minorities and women living in poverty, it noted.

Amnesty International issued a report Friday that calls on President Obama to take action.

1. Thank a repuke.
Since medical care has gotten so fucking expensive, and more and more people are uninsured, wellness visits are being cut. And repukes have done nothing about it, except whine about 'socialized medicine' and claim we have the best health care in the world. What a fucking lie.

Thanks, you asshole repukes, for killing MORE people.

3. RIGHT TO LIFE
From the article: 13.3 US women per 100,000 die from pregnancy and childbirth; the rate is 32.7 per 100,000 among African-American women. The rate in Great Britain is less than 4 per 100,000.

For the past year I have been trying to understand why the "right to life" people are against universal access to health care. It seems like such a simple, logical link. They don't want women to be able to choose an abortion, but if she dies or miscarries because she doesn't have adequate prenatal care they are just glad they didn't have to wait in line to see the doctor.
