Interesting moment at the yarn shop today.
Well, I wasn't there--I was on the phone with the owner, who is trying to get me to buy her shop. Anyways . . .

It's a well-known "secret" in the knitting community here that the yarn shop owners are lesbians (they live together and raise the kids together and while they're careful in public, it's obvious that they love each other). Not everyone else in the area knows that, but it's a small town. This becomes important in a minute.

While we were on the phone, a gentleman interrupted her, and she put the phone down to talk with him but I could still hear her voice and some mumbling from him. All I heard her say was that she didn't do that and that, yes, she was refusing a poster. When she got back on, she was trying not to get upset and said that it seemed too darn early for posters. I asked her what it was a poster for. Get this: Mitt Romney '08! It turns out that it was two young Mormon missionaries going around and putting Romney signs up in the area.

Like she said, it sounds like he's got boots on the ground already. She was fuming. I said something about how he would be an absolute disaster, especially considering how he couldn't pick a side on anything, and she said that she just couldn't afford to let her politics be known in her conservative town.

He's got missionaries going around with signs? You know, that might backfire . . .
