Texas tales in Karl Rove's memoir likely to raise a few questions, eyebrows

Rove writes about the time Democrat John Sharp tried to hire him in the 1998 lieutenant governor’s race against Republican Rick Perry.

“Craziest thing I’ve ever heard of,” Sharp said this week.

In his book, Rove recounts how San Marcos auto dealer Chuck Nash acted as an intermediary with a job offer during a Wildlife Expo dinner. “Nash sidled up to me during the pre-dinner mob scene to talk politics,” Rove writes. “Sharp admired my talents, he said, and wanted my help in his campaign. He could pay me $1 million and it would be funneled through a media firm as part of the advertising buy so no one would know.”

Rove says when he saw Sharp later that night, the Democrat suggested they “find a way to work together” — something that both Sharp and Nash say never happened.

“The only time I have talked with Karl Rove in my life was at a roast” in 2006, Sharp said. “What else is in the book?”

Sometimes I wonder if Karl actually believes all the lies he tells. Maybe what he really needs is a good psychiatrist.
