If we can't get a public option now with overwhelming public support we the people will never get |
|

What we want from our politicians.
This goes to show that our democracy is broken and there is a complete disconnect between the public and our so called public servants.
If the democratic party with its overwhelming numbers can't execute this one obviously democratic issue for us it is one more nail in the myth of the United States as a democracy and a sad piece of evidence that this is a fascist state in the truest meaning of the word.

2. Let's hope it can be done state by state like Canada did. |

I've given up with the corrupt federal government we have today. Until we change how we finance campaigns to public financing, our politicians will be bought by the highest bidder.

Right after "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is no longer the rule in the military, and we work out those "side agreements" in NAFTA, you know, the ones that address environmental and labor concerns. Should happen, ooh, just any day now. I'm thinking of holding my breath in anticipation.

only about 30 % progressive.

6. I am worried about this too. This is our last, best chance, and if we fail this |
|
time to get something like the Public Option or Exchage, if that is like the PO, I am just going to accept that we will never get good health care.
It seems to me that this is "make or break" time.

When you vote "your party" into power and they have a super majority for almost a year
and they do nothing for you
then maybe they are not really your party?
Maybe they are not real democrats. Maybe they are corporate fascist democrats? Maybe they are DLCers?

11. I disagree. If we get any bill passed the fight for a public option can continue. |

If the bill loses, health reform is dead and the fight is over.

12. That isn't the point. |
|
It's not about the public option but about the disregard politicians have for solutions that benefit the people and not corporations. If we can't get passed something that is a hugely popular no brainer cost saver it is evidence they have no interest in representing their constituents.
We've got too many bad eggs in congress and it no longer serves us.

16. I'm not sure what the solution is to a so called democracy that is actually a corporatist governmen. |
|
I think they tout the idea we have a democracy to pacify us and make us believe this is what we voted for when in fact our government is infiltrated by pawns of the people who really run this country.

19. You may be right but... |
|
I still think there is a difference between Dems and Repubs. The Democrats have clearly moved right as have the Republicans but I still feel the Democrats are the lesser of two evils. I hope we have the guts to really change things someday but until then you have to make the best with what you have. The Republicans put the country into the extreme mess it's in now, that we know for a fact so having Repugs running things again will likely make things worse again. How much better the Democrats will run things is still up in the air but I know the GOP is a danger so I support what I see as the (possibly) lesser of two evils.

To the access to media.
Then again we are captives to our need for entertainment and a short attention span which lets us be a tool and a subject of the propaganda of this corporatist elite.

21. Accepting the current incremental change doesn't preclude continuing to demand wholesale change. |
|
You may be right that many are deluding themselves.
I assume you see it like the frog in boiling water. He doesn't notice until it's too late.
Wholesale change doesn't have to happen in an instant and all at once. In fact it probably can't.
But the current cultural mindset certainly is being manipulated for corporate gain. No question.
Until someone figures out how to change this, the best we can do is to accept minor changes that move roughly in the right direction. But continue to explore methods of making a more substantial change.

It's a Political Mafia masquerading as a Representative Democracy.
People really need to start looking behind the curtain to see who The Wizard really is.

24. Money is the reason we can't get it. |
|
Have you read how many millions of dollars are being spent by the Ins. Ind. to get the PO out of the Health Insurance Bill?
Our Congress is owned by them. We cannot afford to buy a PO.
I did not know until this week how much money Obama received from the Insurance Industry and was shocked at the amount. Over $20 million dollars. McCain received only one third of that amount, but then his cooperation was already expected being that he is a Republican.
The whole thing stinks to high heaven and when you see people on progressive blogs supporting this sell-out you realize how well spent that money was.
We won't get a PO. Only one Democrat is likely to keep fighting and refusing their money. The rest will cave.
