The average number of troops that die in Iraq every day is 2.3.

The longer a president refuses to sign an immediate redeployment, the more lives that will be lost in vain.

Nancy Pelosi must occupy the White House as quickly as possible, for their sake. Whatever the reasons to impeach are - the wiretapping, the CIA outing, the war fraud - After all is said and done, this is the bottom line for me. 2.3 American troops will die every single day.

How many people here have 2 children? Imagine waking up tomorrow without both of them. Mr. Bush is about to veto a bill that will pull the troops out one year from now. That adds up to 839.5 lives. By the time the 2008 election rolls around, another 483 lives will be lost.

If the nation waits until November, 2008 to elect a Democratic president, at the very least another one thousand, three hundred twenty two lives will be lost. That's not counting the time it would take to pass a bill and implement a troop pullout, and that's assuming the average remains constant, which it will not. (And it won't decrease, either).

Impeachment can happen if enough people put pressure on their representatives. It is already starting to gain momentum, with prominent Democrats (Kucinich and Murtha) speaking out and the mainstream media starting to cover the possibility. If you have not already contacted your representative, I urge you to do so as soon as possible. If you have, do it again.

To those who do not support impeachment, I give you a number:
1322

agreed - but you understate it. The number has not been that low since August. I expect you are using an average for the entire war. For this month it is at 3.47, with none yet reported for today.

I'd use something more like 1800. And THAT assumes it stays at current level - which it will not.

I 'll vote for this-
I will just say - It so much worse than that.

Not just the KIA going up - its - for every one of our kids that die maybe ten are wounded. And for everyone wounded maybe ten are perminantly psychologically scared.

ANd it is going up by the hour.

3. and if that doesn't convince you
go look them in the eye - the 3351 who have already died - follow the links to their stories - read the words of the widows, parents, friends. Look at the monthly pages, and imagine some twelve or more additional pages just like them that don't need to happen.

7. yes
I got a haircut in Twentynine Palms last year - just off the base - about ten "jarheads" were there getting trimmed - I looked from one to the next, silently asking myself which ones would not make it.

As I search the net for pictures and articles about the latest fatalities, I occasionally get a "hit" on an old article - maybe a graduation photo, a sports award, a wedding announcement - hard as it is to post the articles written about them after they are killed, reading those upbeat stories about a vibrant person in a happier time really brings it home.

They are not numbers. They are flesh and blood people, with families, babies, hopes and aspirations.
It is unacceptable to say "oh, we need to wait a few months until the time is right" when it means condemning another few hundred of them.

5. I have to say -
Your post is one of the most touching I've ever read on the DU.

I've been here for about 4 years. My post total is about 9,000 and that means I've read the same amount of posts/articles.

Yours is one of the saddest. And true, as well.

6. Yes
and how many tens of thousands of Iraqis will die. How many US soldiers will be forever damaged due to head injuries, depleted uranium and so on. We are talking about a number too large for us to consider possibly? This will go on and on until maximum pressure is placed upon our Reps to begin hearings.

This Must Stop!
