If we can't get single-payer...

We'll settle for the public option. Um, Mr. President, didn't you support that in your campaign?

Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 11:44 AM by kenny blankenship
so people who know better are being coerced to vote or cheer for something they know is bad, because if they don't pass the bill "ZOMG, it'll look like Democrats are irresponsible children who can't govern!" And then all the Democrats worry about getting voted out short term. And so then they'll pass a bill which is a longterm nightmare, which is a gift to the criminals in the insurance rackets, and which is pretty much the opposite of what they ran on and were asked to do by the people.

It's hostage taking, in other words.

Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 12:08 PM by kenny blankenship
It's not easy to get people to swallow poison, but he's succeeding at it. So, while it may look chaotic, his strategy is effective.

(Of course suicide strategies can work up until the point when the hostages decide to rise up and take over the plane)

21. At this point, I'm looking to make lemonade out of these lemons
The second this thing is signed into law and before the ink has dried on President Obama's signature, I'm planning to agitate for all those "fixes" we've been promised, and I will let my Representative and Senators know that the work on this has just begun.

39. Of course, at that time, we'll be told:
"Get over it."
"Move on."
"We have other pressing items on the agenda."
"Why aren't you satisfied with what you got?"
"Give it a chance to work."
"Are you smarter than the Grand Chessmaster?"
"Why don't you care about (insert cause du jour)?"

Etc., etc., etc., ad nauseam.

40. I fully expect that
Particularly the "give it a chance to work" which being translated means, "never." Because we'll never get to a definitive point at which all those good men and true will admit that they passed some half-assed half-measure, and that the legislation was the bestest ever produced by their august body. Not unlike a turd after a heavy meal.

But I'm still gonna agitate.

In selecting Obama as the best marketer of the year, marketing experts have chosen well. Not only did Obama establish himself as the leading "brand" in the US electoral process, he quickly became an iconic label all over the world with his slogan of "change we can believe in." The central component of the marketing campaign's success was the implicit argument that the candidate's skin color would mean that, once in office, Obama would carry out a radically different agenda than the Bush administration. Since the election, Obama has done much to disabuse people of this notion, selecting a right-wing cabinet committed to the war in Iraq and austerity at home.

23. The "more plausible explanation" = Corporate America runs this country.
NOW and FOREVER.

Everything is done to please them and them ONLY. It only acts like help.

If a Republican were in office, things would be far, FAR worse. So in America, we have a choice of jumping from a building, hoping we'll survive . . . and jumping from a building into a lake of fire while being shot by snipers and arrows on the way down. AWEsome menu.

53. "We have an agreement with the White House..."
That's the problem in a nutshell right there. The President is elected by the people, paid by the people and should only be making agreements with the people... not with lobbyists. That's the key problem with this process, and everything else said about this process is background noise designed to obfuscate the key problem.

66. Excellent, But Inaccurate
Obama did specifically use the words "public option" in campaign speecehes and a TV ad. And he not only mentioned it, but he said that the bill he signs has to have it.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x210659

So he's not "technically not lying". It's full frontal.
