Don't Mess With Texas ... Textbooks! By Chuck Norris
http://www.thewestsidestory.net/article/Politics/Political_Mud/Dont_Mess_With_Texas_Textbooks_By_Chuck_Norris/19694

(snip)

"My personal warning to educational tyranny and tyrants is this: It's best not to test or mess with Texas. If you thought we fought hard for the Alamo, wait until you see what we can do for the right to educate our children. You can hide behind your No. 2 pencils, but our branding irons will find your tail sides."

Someone should inform Mr. Norris that he ONCE AGAIN got his history wrong: Texans LOST the battle at the Alamo.

;-)

4. I wish they'd just take all their childrens out of school
Then schools wouldn't be burdened with teaching "faith" as a science. These conservatives sure have an odd (read: insane) take on what tyranny is. Conservatives essentially control the Texas School Board and they swept in just about every change they wanted. Who, exactly, is being tyrraical here?

(Side Note: "Texans" may have lost the Alamo itself, but the fight for it broke the back of Santa Anna's army. The precieved cruelty of the seige convinced a large number of people to rally to the Texian army cause, and a six weeks later, the war was over).

5. Fundies and teabaggers want to insert their "opinions"
into history books. "GWB was a brilliant, misunderstood man who was equal to Jesus Christ in every way, the Earth is only 6,000 years old and Jesus rode dinosaurs and he wasn't a Liberal so stop saying that, the Bible is the absolute truth and Democrats should be punished according to its words but not Republicans, the Constitution says whatever we want it to say to suit our needs, the founders wanted this to be a 100% Christian country cuz we say so."

11. Chuck, you stupid shit!
Texas has ALWAYS been ground zero for the battles in the textbook wars. Here's his problem: if it was possible to cheaply make two versions of textbooks--one for Texas, one for everywhere else--this wouldn't be a huge problem. Texas could write their geology texts to state the earth is 6000 years old, the rest of the nation could refuse to accept a Texas high school diploma as proof of anything, and the world would be just fine. But the world works in a different way: Texas writes America's textbooks. As a result, every child learns The Flintstones was really a documentary.
