Want to get a lot of un'recs? Say something nice about health care reform. |
|
Some people are just like lemmings. The current DU topic du joir is hate health care reform so anything that looks like it disagrees with that point just gets unrecommended.
This type of reform has been talked about for over since 1945 and nothing has gotten close to reform until now. And if this bill does not pass it will be God knows how long before a Democratic Congress, Senate and President will be around to start it again. We are probably doomed come this November.
And no wonder the Democrats are having such a hard time passing this bill. Just look at this board! People are so pissed that single payer did not happen that they refused to help a public option happen. And then they were so pissed that a public option didn't happen that they wanted everything to fail.
Forget what kind of harm it will do for the Democratic party if we lose. That is something I don't see many people caring about anyway. Forget that we will be the party of failure and watch for a big defeat come November and probably in the next president election too.
Why do you think the Ruthugs have been trying to "start all over"? They want the time to run out and for us to get nothing done by the next election! They have used every rule to try and run this thing out because they know that if they can hang on to the next election they will finally have their say,"NO".
Forget about the 30 million people it will cover immediately. Who the Hell are they anyway? We don't care about them as Democrats do we? And forget about ALL the children that will benefit. Why care about them as long as you are making your point.
I have never seen such lack of compassion, such disregard for human life as I have see in recent months on this board. Yea the bill won't save the 40,000 lives this year but it will save some and it will save others down the road. And for those who say it is a give-away to the insurance company it is not but if it was so fucking what? To save one child is worth it. And trust me they are not going to make money on this bill. I don't believe they would spend 400 billion trying to make a false face so people will be tricked into thinking they really don't want the bill when they really do. I think the health insurance companies really do not want this bill. And the Republicans don't want it either. That should make you think that they are going to lose from it.
I just posted something that had good news about what the health care reform did and I know I had at least 6 un'recs. I wonder how many were people who just couldn't stand any positive news about the health care bill. These people are the Democratic tea bagers. Name one difference beside the outdoor protests. You all heard how horrible people treated that little 11 year old boy who was lobbying because he lost his mother at age 27. You heard the filth that Limbaugh and Beck said about the boy. What is the difference between them and you?
Well go ahead and spit on this post. I can always start another thread. When time goes by and you see yourself benefiting from the bill or one of its coming amendments, (like a public option) you are the one who will remember that you fought against it, (just like so many fought against Social Security and Medicare).
Even Michael Moore said it was a terrible bill that needed to be passed.

the arguments you guys keeps coming up with haven't worked and won't work. Except maybe to stop any and all progress.
Try coming up with some rational, workable solutions, instead of just yelling at us what we all know-- the healthcare situation in this country is screwn and this bill will be at best a partial solution to the problem.
(At least SOME kind of a bill is on the horizon after 50 years.)

Why do people un'rec positive posts about the HCR? I think it is because they have their position and don't want to read anything that threatens it. And they don't want anyone else seeing that information because it is threatening to them for others to have a positive view. Maybe they are just not that sure of themselves and and want to squash any information that would possibly make them more unsure.

|
So much for the bullshit argument that we're forced to give our money to the Corporate HC Industry.
(this also means competition)
"Although there will not be a public plan option in the Exchanges, the Office of Personnel Management, which administers the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program, will contract with private insurers to offer at least two multi‐state plans in each Exchange, including at least one offered by a non‐profit entity. In addition, funds will be made available to establish non‐profit, member‐run health insurance CO‐OPs in each state."

It's almost like most DUers actively WANT the world to come to an end. They seem to live for the day that they will be arrested for daring to Rock and Roll, or for reading 1984, and they will all become romantic revolutionaries like Che.
I want the world to be a better place. I think it can best be done by education and work. In that way, I'm a radical meliorist. This does not seem to sit well with our frustrated Whining Path guerillas any better than with Code Bronze Republicans. Yet they offer nothing better than complaint, know-it-all arrogance, and stiff-necked anger for anyone who mentions it.

The lemmings are the ones who aren't parroting the White House talking points and who are looking at the real costs and effects of this bill on working and middle class Americans.
And the SS and Medicare analogies are old, tired, and dishonest. Medicare and SS were public programs from the beginning. But getting this boondoggle passed should embolden those who have been looking to privatize those programs to renew their push.

19. I agree wholeheartedly, and.. |
|
the "debate," such as it is is, just getting in the way. It looks like a bill of some sort is about to pass in some way, but that's not good enough for some people. I don't care if they want to go down in a blaze of glory, but they could be taking a lot of people with them.
So what if we might have to pay for our insurance-- SOMEBODY has to pay for our healthcare, and the one who's getting it shouldn't complain about chipping in a little. There will be subsidies for those who can't afford the premiums, so what's the problem?
The insurance companies will make money-- well so what? All the whining about that seems more like sour grapes and jealousy than justice. The greedy, nasty, evil insurance companies pay out around a trillion dollars a year in benefits, so since when are they not allowed some profit for what they actually do?
There's a lot of "But what if...?" in the complaining-- well what if nothing changes, premiums go up to where no one can afford them any more, medical expenses keep going up, and employers (who are NOT required to offer coverage) don't offer coverage any more? How is that better?

Request a list of independent and low efficacy Dem voters. Make phone calls or knock on doors to sell this "reform" to them. Put your money where your mouth is. It's easy to bash the dirty fucking hippies on the internet. It's not so easy to convince regular voters that this bill will help them.

48. "If it saves one child it's worth it" We're talking about an industry that quantifies human life. |
|
So let's talk in those terms.
Human life is only valuable if it isn't sick or isn't likely to become so. It can slave away, paying premiums to a company without ever reaping its benefits.
However, if a person becomes sick, their life costs more. We need to reduce the number of these people who claim sickness on the health insurance. How do we do that? By denying their claim. If they appeal, wait until they die. Then, they can't sue us and we pocket the cash.
That is how insurance thinks. I for one am sick of it, and if this legislation moves us closer to destroying that idea, than good for it.
But if it, as I worry, simply says I have to buy insurance, but they can still find a loophole to deny my claim, then it's just another tax that I don't want.
So far, I believe the latter is true. I don't want another tax.

49. Oh dear, such a lack of irony here. |
|
Lemmings. You mean, like the lockstep, party-first mentality where currently witnessing in Congress and DU? Or is it that odd poll with 97% of "liberals" supporting this bill? We've just spent the past 48 hours being told we're a discontented 3%.
Now we're a horde of lemmings.
Look, I don't mind talking points. Politics are politics. It's the lack of coordination that grates. Either we're a tiny minority of a minority of a minority of malcontents, or we're all mindless zombies shambling along with the rest of the group.
You can't have it a half dozen ways, depending on whatever phantom thought flitted through a neuron. It doesn't work that way.
The slightest touch of awareness never steers wrong, in my opinion.
