Palin fires up 'tea party' activists at rally in Nevada

SEARCHLIGHT, NEV. -- Sarah Palin urged thousands of "tea party" activists assembled in the dusty Nevada desert Saturday to "fire" Sen Harry M. Reid (D), saying he will have to explain his votes when he returns here to campaign in his home town.

The former Alaska governor told a cheering crowd that Reid, who is fighting for reelection, is "gambling away our future."

"Someone needs to tell him this is not a crapshoot," Palin said.

About 7,000 people streamed into tiny Searchlight, a former mining town 60 miles south of Las Vegas, bringing with them American flags and "Don't Tread on Me" signs.

A string of polls has shown that the Senate majority leader is vulnerable in politically moderate Nevada after pushing President Obama's agenda in Congress. His standing has also been hurt by Nevada's double-digit unemployment and record foreclosure and bankruptcy rates.

In a statement, Reid responded with sarcasm to the large crowd gathered in the hardscrabble town of about 1,000.

"I'm happy so many people came to see my home town of Searchlight and spend their out-of-state money, especially in these tough economic times," Reid said. "This election will be decided by Nevadans, not people from other states who parachuted in for one day to have a tea party."

2. Off topic--
Ok Amerigo, you've changed your picture again. I'm guessing 'It's a Beautiful Day'. Am I right?

4. Yes...I burned out on the black & white JA pic, as much as I loved it...
...needed some color. Will probably leave IABD in place for a while.

6. It's too bad they weren't in for the long haul like the Dead, Quicksilver, & the Airplane...
...they definitely didn't sound anything like any of those bands, they had their own unique thing going on.

3. I am not a tea partier. But I find the article about a Reid quote interesting.

He is using the 'parachuted in', comment, according to the Washington Post.

I don't think I believe the quote is his. I wonder if it was fabricated?

I could be wrong, but choosing that choice of words is backwards.

That same quote was said to be used recently by Pelosi about passing health care..
http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2010/03/health_care_reform_1

January 28th—"“We will go through the gate. If the gate is closed, we will go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we will pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, we will parachute in. But we are going to get health-care reform passed"—

I find it weird that Reid would use the same phrase talking about Tea party groups.

This has nothing to do with anyone mentioned in the post or article, but there is a note about parachuting from the book I was writing. Really a tangent, but odd when tangents match that book.

In the book, one of the characters, remember it was a fantasy book, when he would go into the mind of one of his opponents, he would use his training from halo jumps. The character in the book used to do halo jumps in his past, and he used the visual and experience of that training when going into a mind held by darkness. By having a visual/experience reference, it gave an anchor back to reality to keep the shadows from getting into his mind.

In the story his jump was through the night of the shadows in the mind of one that was oppressed, until a light however small it might be, was found. Then he would wrap his arms around the light, pull the cord, and bring the light to the surface. Giving the person the chance to reject the dark that had been oppressing them.

It was in a chapter of the book where the character was going up against one of the dark sided people.
