Axelrod defends DNC, OFA donation e-mails based on healthcare debate

Democrats' attempts to raise money by promising to defuse tensions surrounding the healthcare debate were "within the parameters of acceptable fundraising," White House Senior Adviser David Axelrod said Sunday.

But, Axelrod added: "I would rather there were not events around which to send out missives like that."

Republicans and Democrats have sparred viciously this week, blaming each other for the noticeable uptick in threats against lawmakers and their staffs.

But GOPers charge that Democrats have gone too far by included mention of those threats in their latest campaign e-mails. Two such messages -- one sent by the Democratic National Committee, another by Organizing for America, the president's campaign arm -- earned the direct scorn of House GOP Leader Eric Cantor (D-Va.), who said they were in fact stoking discontent.

(snip)
On one hand, he said it was Republicans, in fact, who were using the most incendiary rhetoric to describe the passage of healthcare reform, adding it Republican strategists later refused to sign a 'civility' agreement with their Democratic counterparts.

2. That's crap.
They had every right to mention the fact that Senators and Reps were being threatened by the GOP's henchmen. EVERY GODDAMN RIGHT.
