Coffee with Congressman Cleaver Sat Mar 27 ~ Pictures.
Congressman Emanuel Cleaver has regular Sat. morning coffees with constituents. Yesterday was his first coffee since the spitting incident last weekend.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x251358

He has these coffees regularly. An email alert went out to pack the place so I assumed they expected our local teabaggers to be there.

I pulled in the parking lot at 7 am and a man in a truck with a NOBAMA bumper sticker took the last open spot. So I went across the street and parked near two cars with teabagger bumper stickers.

The coffee didn't begin till 8 and the place was packed when I walked in. I said hello to Cleaver's aide as he was handing out slips to fill out if you wanted to talk to him one on one. He was at #25. And the congressman wasn't due to arrive to meet with anyone for another hour.

I saw a lot of familiar faces and a few people I didn't know. A lady I know was handing out signs that said THANK YOU so I got one and ordered my coffee, ready to out shout the teabaggers when Cleaver arrived.

More and more people kept coming. It was a madhouse. I wasn't expecting anything other than an outburst of teabagger hate.

Then Cleaver walked in and the place erupted IN CHEERS. It was awesome. People were screaming. I saw a few tears also.

He spoke to us for a few minutes before he started meeting with folks individually. He told a sad story about a friend who called him the night before the vote (the evening of the day he was spat on) and he said his friend's story of his health care nightmare inspired him to vote for HCR.

He never mentioned the spitting incident.

No one booed. Not one person.

And the people I didn't recognize - they were cops. :)

We love Cleaver here. And we showed him a lot of love yesterday morning.

5. Proud
Have I told you how much I admire you lately?
When I left Kansas City in 2008 I left behind a lot of friends, co-workers and memories.
Out of those memories, in the top ten, was saying I had an opportunity to spend a couple of hours drinking some beers with you.
My life has changed so much since I moved to freaking fundy central Florida but, Grayson is my rep so I have got some things to be happy about!

DU should be proud (lol) to have you here delivering your HIGHLY informative and entertaining posts.

YOU ROCK, girlfriend.
You made my day.

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver gave me a hug when I met him one day at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
He asked me where I was from and if I was from KC and I said "No, I'm from New York City" and he gave me a hug and said...
"I love New York, maybe they should use that as a slogan" and we both had a BIG laugh.

:toast: :hi: :pals: :hi: :toast:

8. Hannity is coming to Rep. Cleaver's town on April 10
What a shame it would be if someone accidentally spit on him.

14. You are soooo fortunate! I am in what was Tancredo's district.
Yeah, try living with that. :puke:

I called his office (YOUR rep, not mine!) to thank him for all of his efforts.

I truly believe that our thanks are just as important as our prodding!

:patriot: for Cleaver! What all of you did was really beautiful! I have a feeling it meant more than roses.....
