Vietnam MIA Finds Way Home
by: Richard Allen Smith
Mon Mar 29, 2010 at 19:19:32 PM EDT

It's always nice when a hero is welcomed home. Such is the case for Air Force Maj. Curtis Daniel Miller, missing in action since 1972:

On Monday, Miller's remains, identified in 2008, were buried in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. He received full military honors, including an Air Force flyover.

"Thirty-eight long years of not knowing is absolute purgatory," Miller's wife, Susan, said in an interview with CNN affiliate WFAA-TV. "It's something that never ends."

4. Can we take that flag down now?
I'm glad that Major Miller's family finally got to bury him. I am enraged that rightwing villains and a compliant government have exploited the unaccounted for casualties of that wrong war of my generation for 40 years now. There were no secret POW camps. The missing were and are dead. Take down the flag.

Must be nice to assume that everyone and everything has to revolve around what happened when you were a kid.

The flag represents POW/MIA other than just Vietnam even if that was the source of its origin.

8. They Vietnamese have an estimated 3 million MIA's, all presumed dead. The NVA

and the victorious communist government removed existing South Vietnamese military burial sites and simply plowed them under with bulldozers, removing all evidence of any military graves.

Many NVA dead were simply buried where they died or in the walls of caves which were later sealed up.

We still pay the Vietnamese government to search for remains of US dead, and probably will continue to do so for decades to come.

There is some American industry and business in Vietnam, mainly in the South, contributing a lot to their economy. Peavey manufactures some guitars and electronics there.

Another sad war that still causes pain.
