Say what you will about immigration, but I have to give the Latinos credit for something.
When their jobs and livelihood are threatened,
they hit the streets with hundreds of thousands.

When millions of middle America's jobs are moved
overseas for cheap labor, leaving the middle class
jobless, all we do is whimper and moan a bit, then
bend over ask for a little lube.

27. That's called "rugged individualism" and it's a highly lauded facet of the American character!
All businessmen LOVE it!

2. Most don't even ask for that
Note that there were Latinos coming into the country all through the '90's but it was not an issue; why no one noticed? Maybe because we were in a boom economy and no one cared? If the welfare "reform" act had not happened it would be all our problems are because of welfare queens, but Bill took that one away so now it's illegals. the propaganda is being more successfully catapulted then some realize.

6. The damn gringos don't have any fire in their belly............
perhaps when they are living in shanties, they will become motivated to take to the streets too! Now the latinos need to take to their streets in their own country and straighten out their own corrupt governments.

kept their greedy hands off of Latin American elections. :)

9. In case you missed it, they did. They were arrested and killed, the independent media
was shut down, and the US turned their backs on it.

Typical.

15. if at first you dont succeed
dust yourself off and try again.

thats all i can say to that.

our independence and civil war wasnt easy either.

unfortunately sometimes it takes death to take your country back from the grip of mad men(or women).

people cant just run away when something bad happens.

which is exactly why my little arse isnt already in canada.
i plan on staying here and help being a part of the solution.

18. Excuse me, but your country hasn't been preyed upon the way
Mexico has been preyed upon by American corporatists. Henry David Thoreau went to jail rather than support via his tax money your government's war of aggression against Mexico . . .

And it's pretty hard for hungry people to do anything about the madmen in *your* White House who keep f8cking with their elections to benefit their cronies. It's sort of ironic that you are demanding that Mexican citizens do what we haven't been able to do.

the mexican people cant take back their government ?
they are completely powerless?
the masses have no say ?

well hell
guess we should give up too. guess we should all move to canada after all.

and
p.s.
i do support doing here as i suggest the mexicans do. but everybody else seems to be opposed to the idea of a hostile takeover.

19. they have been successful in most of Latinoamerica
Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, etc they have hit the streets, and have had good results. Mexico is using Florida/Texas style elections, so when we figure out how to prevail, we can tell them.

13. I'm talking about recent "history" -- such as the last federal election
that BushCo subverted in Mexico. They stole it from the progressive and gave it to the corrupt, BushCo kiss up who is now f7cking the people.

And, btw, many of us Latinos did march in our own country this week. :)

subverting Mexican elections. They sent teams down there -- even speech writers.

Mexicans want to see change in Mexico.

26. Perhaps we, the people of the US, should get together with them, the people of Mexico,
to solve our mutual problems together. There is plenty of interaction between us, but we are always hindered by each of us pursuing our own, conflicting, agendas.

Maybe if we could convince them to refuse to work for less money here, and the thousands (millions?) of us that are there either living or vacationing would support their reforms, perhaps only going to or doing business with the areas and companies that are opposing the Calderón government? I know that their economy cannot survive with the constant influx of US dollars, and ours cannot improve with a limitless supply of lower wage and vulnerable labor.

What do you think?

21. Except there are real cultural differences that one can observe
Edited on Wed May-02-07 03:49 PM by sfexpat2000
and that's not racism, that's difference.

In Latino families, boundaries are different.

In Latino communities, communication is different.

In Latino culture, there are different rules for when you can or should speak up and when or how you can do that in public.

So, I agree with the OP. No matter what your opinion is on our completely messed up immigration debacle, Latinos got out there and told their truth.

/oops

28. Stereotypes are racist.
Edited on Wed May-02-07 08:08 PM by philosophie_en_rose
"Latinos got out there and told their truth." really? There's a Latino truth? "Them" with "their" kookie boundaries. :eyes: Different from whom? The normal people?

I agree that there are observable cultural differences, but really broad generalizations are fairly unhelpful. The fact that protests came from certain communities is one thing, but the "say what you will" part is disgusting.

At best, this is a backhanded "compliment" of a thread. Like saying, "Go ahead and insult those losers, but they did one thing right." :eyes: "Say what you will about those Nazis, but they were really good record keepers." :eyes:
