Okay -- Don't vote if you disagree with some things Obama and the Democrats have done. |
|
You and many Democrats aren't happy with what the Congress and Obama have done so you won't vote for a party you disagree with. You have standards. Heck, both parties are the same anyway, it doesn't matter who wins.
Okay. Don't vote for Democrats since you dislike some things they are doing. Which means you have just given a vote the Republicans so you must think they are better for America.
So... You agree that global warming is a myth and all regulation of emissions and renewable energy projects must be eliminated. You agree that health insurance companies must be free to control your medical treatment and costs however it profits them. You agree that we should start new wars all over the world to prove that we are more powerful than they are. You agree that America is a Christian nation and laws should be adjusted to reflect this. You agree that America is a white nation and laws should be adjusted to reflect this. You agree that evolution is a myth and bible stories should be given equal or more emphasis. You agree that helping the poor should not be an aspect of government. You agree that these principals must be maintained in perpetuity by any means necessary including spying on and incarcerating anyone who disagrees.
To you this America is what you want. Why it's exactly the same America that the Democrats are building, isn't it? No difference at all.
So go ahead, don't vote. Support the Republicans. You will uphold your standards and give the gift of power to the Republicans so they can enforce theirs.

19. I find name calling useless |
|
I was trying to find out who I wanted to support in 2004. I was in Mississippi and wanted to learn what wasn't broadcast in the area, so I went online and tried to learn. I had narrowed it down to Howard Dean and John Kerry. I went to Dean's site because I was leaning toward him, but after I asked questions and got name calling for even considering Kerry, and saw the vicious manner they answered my questions, I went with Kerry. I have since met Dean and found he was a very thoughtful and calm person and I wished I had supported him. I certainly wish those who acted so hadn't and I could have learned instead of getting turned off by them.

9. Reality sucks doesn't it? |
|
I am a fairly liberal progressive, but reality is something I am aware of. I remember the most liberal Democrat was Kucinich and how far did he go in getting the nomination? If we were as strong as some believe then why don't we have single payer since as strong as supposed, we couldn't have been ignored? I have watched as progressives/liberals have said in a matter of months they are done with Obama and wondered if they realized that was just making sure the special interest had the strength and what influence we have was decreasing. I am not pleased with everything Obama has done, but honestly folks, he has done some very good things and we need to continue to work with him, not nail him to the cross.

The party loyalists need to make up their minds - you either need the left or you don't. If you think we're irrelevant you can't turn around and blame us if things go badly in November or in 2012.

16. Yep the likes of Blanche Lincoln |
|
Certainly she is a sellout and I want to see her kind go down. We should work inside the party to get rid of this kind of filth, but honestly, these side parties that have no political parties are not the answer. I agree the Democrats have not done nearly what they should but the way the structure is we have either the Democrats or Republicans with the power, and we KNOW what the Republicans will do. At least the Democrats are more likely to move our way. I don't like that it is that way, but the only way we can change things is through the Democrats.

22. All it will take is for the Demcrats to take back Congress |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-02-10 12:55 PM by dflprincess
oh wait - they did that. Well, just wait until the Democrats are in control of Congress & we hvead a Democrat in the White House.
Oh, that doesn't appear to working out so well either.
Well, just wait until every last member of Congress claims to be a Democrat - then things will change.
I received a fundraising call from the DCCC not too long ago and the person on the phone actually told me that for things to change the Democrats needed to increase their majority. I suggested they get a new script and hung up.
Thirty-eight years I've been active in this party. I've stuck by them through thick and thin and held a variety of party offices - I'm done believing empty promises. If they want my vote they're going to have to earn it.

exemplified by Dems.
You can't. There are individuals, who happen to be liberal and progressive. You can't show the actual difference between R and D policy, certainly not by using the main topics current, such as health care, education and offshore drilling.
At what point to Democrats take responsibility for earning votes, not treating voters as a captive audience and not enabling OP harangues like this one against their own constituents?

32. But that's a novel idea! Ask Democrats to govern |
|
like Democrats rather than Republicans? Never! It's OUR team, right or wrong!
One thing I know from the people I talk to, many of them Independents, the old 'lesser of two evils' isn't working anymore.
If Democrats want people's votes, they know how to get them. And if they persist in this 'bi-partisanship nonsense, they will be held responsible if Republicans gain back a majority.
Shifting blame to voters simply won't fly. Not this time. Try something new, we already tried the 'lesser of two evils'.
Democrats LOST Ted Kennedy's seat. That was a massive failure directly due to the expectation that people will continue to vote for the lesser evil. Someone needs to sit them down and have a good talk with them, unless they WANT to lose.
Just remember, a vast majority of Americans won't hear your specious 'blame the voters' argument, they are not on the internet. Democrats have a few months to demonstrate to voters that they are worth their votes.
It's up the Democratic Party. Unless they plan to 'mandate votes' which I get the feeling would be a popular idea with some people, no party has a right to expect to get people to vote for them without earning those votes.
I have a suggestion. How about some of that bi-partisanship with liberals for a change?

convince Democrats such as myself to VOTE for progressives so that progressives would then have the majority needed to govern like progressives.
