15. The kicking donkey, or any other smiley is done like this: |
|
You just type the text the way you always do, and when you want a smiley, you pause and put it wherever you want: :kick: And then you resume typing!
Try it.......you'll see!
You'll need to access the "smileys lookup table" that appears just above your message when you're typing. It's in Message Options. Also, you need to not check "No Emoticons" to get them to show. No check there, and then you can use them.

You type a :, then "kick" (without the quotation marks), then the final :
Try it, then click the preview to see if it worked. :hi:

3. I hit Print Screen then Scroll Lock and then Print Screen again |
|
Used to have an old bookkeeping program that absolutely would not create a GIF in MS Paint unless I did it that way.

6. Print Screen = prt sc in a square |
|
Somewhere on your keyboard. Mine is on my home key above my num lock.
I hit fn and prt sc.
Then you paste it into a picture program, like photoshop.

16. The Windows screen capture is not very user friendly it you aren't a geek.. |
|
There are a couple free ones like Snagit and ScreenHunter if you are going to continue to do captures it would benefit you to grab one of these.
Oh and nothing against geeks, I'm one myself :)

And I wanted to thank you (again?) for your ultra-kind and supportive message. You're a good man. BTW, I think we know see eye to eye on dungeon issues. The only thing I have left that is even vaguely "conspiratorial" is that I think it probably arose out of "blow'back" from some of our black op CIA operative agents (double, triple agents, etc.)
Anyway, I give you much props for standing on such firm ground all the time.

20. It's a Little Different for Different Keyboards |
|
You have to look for a key somewhere that's labeled something like "Print Screen", or some variation.
In most cases you may have to simultaneously press shift either control, shift, or a separate function key on a laptop. The keyboard should give a clue if there are other keys needed as well.
Once you've done that, paste the screen print just like any other paste: control+V, a paste icon, from the right-click menu -- whatever works in the place you try to paste it. You can use pretty much any program that accepts picture files. Microsoft Paint (under accessories in the menu) is good, but screen prints can even be pasted in files like a Microsoft Word document.
Now, if you want to get a screen print onto a DU post, you have to put it on the internet. There are lots of places that do this sort of thing, but Photobucket.com is popular and easy to use. Once you sign up for a free account, you can just follow the upload instructions. After it's uploaded, Photobucket provides an address for the image. This can just be posted in a DU post without any other further instructions.
For example, the donkey kick's address is:
http: // www. democraticunderground.com/discuss/images/donkey.gif (spaces added, or else it would just show the donkey picture)
Screen captures work the same way.

The snipping tool comes with Windows Vista & Windows 7. It's a great tool. You just draw a box around the section of the screen you want to capture, give it a name and save it. Couldn't be easier.
