Anyone familiar with the phrase "Holger Danske Vagner"?
A picture with these words is on the Facebook page of someone I know. Apparently it translates as "Holger the Dane awakens," or something very similar. Holger or Ogier the Dane seems to be sort of a Nordic King Arthur-ish figure, and the largest WWII Danish resistance group was called Holger Danske after the legendary hero.

Thing is, a Google of the name brings up a couple of instances where the phrase seems to be used in connection with anti-Islamic sentiment. Or at least, that's how I read it. Any DU'ers familiar with this phrase being used in this manner? Is it a motto for an anti-Islamic movement?

1. I think this UK post from a few years ago sums up the
feelings of many in Europe re the increasing influence of Islam in society.

I'm not condoning the views , just highlighting them....they do need airing , discussing etc.

3. I saw that, and I looked over that website
Clicked through the Baron Bodissey link under Contributors, and found The 910 Group Blog where, among other things, the ACLU is referred to as the Anti-American, Uncivil, Socialist Union.

I'm all for discussing the role of Islam, and religion in general, in society. But the language in that letter is what I would call very right wing: "the incubus Islam its succubi, Political Correctness," the bit about the Thought Police and their "Marxist Paradise," and so on. It also sounds racist to me.

Anyway, I was just trying to figure out what that is, so I could begin to know what to think of it. Thanks for the information!

5. Apparently the folks at GoV weren't pleased with the guy
from Little Green Footballs. Last year, he called the anti-jihadists a bunch of kooks after Vlaams Belang was included in one of their conferences.

I think the picture is coming into focus...

2. "anti-jihad" groups love him.
Yeah, he's a Danish sleeping-king type figure who will return in his country's hour of need. The GoV blog post above pretty much gets it.

4. The more I read, the more I'm seeing that
And that would probably fit with the person who posted the pic on FB.

Thanks!
