Trying To Get To Sleep - But These 4 DU Posts Have Kept Me Up & Scared.........
The first about a DU getting out of the U.S.:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8082090

The second about WikiLeaks and their incriminating video & their Twitter:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8079681

The third about a method to the Repug madness:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8080050

The fourth about the state of unemployment in our country:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8079961

It is now 3:49am where I'm at and I don't know if I'll be able to get to sleep now after reading these three threads. What the hell is happening to our country?

All four of these threads are long reads - but should be required reading for all here. They should be passed along to friends and family. One hates to spoil an Easter Sunday Dinner - but Easter is about Resurrection from the Dead. I can't think of a more appropriate time for all Americans to take action and resurrect this country.

I hope these posts/threads that I bookmarked about will cause people to take action and if they do then we can really say that we can have a Happy Easter!!!!!

The world has ALWAYS been like this. It's always on the brink. Frikkin' always.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck but...if you can...distract yourself with something else if it helps you get to bed.

But not chili-cheese fries. Because that's why I can't get to sleep.

;)

Peace to you! (and to us all!)

If you can't find something good and distracting, try Googling these articles from Cracked:
The 5 Creepiest Unsolved Crimes Nobody Can Explain
7 Books We Lost to History That Would Have Changed the World
6 Insane Discoveries That Science Can't Explain
History's 10 Most Terrifying Contraceptives
History's 9 Most Terrifying Beauty Tips

They don't do shit for indigestion though or I'd be out like a baby by now...

4. Why not just brush up on the Holocaust, then? There's some more good pre-bedtime reading.
I went through this same thing after 9/11. Exact same thing. You, at your fingertips, have access to the Internet. The Internet is a genie which will bring you any thing you want. But it brings you what you want.

So, if you want to get to bed, you might want to ask it to bring you something other than shit that's going to keep you up and/or feed a running panic attack. You're in control there. But if you keep looking up the news, you're already in a mood where your eyes are prolly not gonna alight on the stories that make you feel good.

It's absolutely 100% human nature to focus on things which reinforce our beliefs and/or our mood.

Realize it and choose differently, at least to help you sleep. But it is a choice and I can't come through the wires with a hot pot of cammomile tea for you, cause if I could somehow I'd probably be tempted to...

6. Since I can't post any threads...
...I'd like to post it here, and it's about the sense of hopelessness and "giving-up" related to the first link.

Ralph Nader Was Right About Barack Obama
http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/ralph_nader_was_right_about_barack_obama_20100301/

The republicans are united in that they are anti-Obama, but the democrats are all over the place! I think we need to lure back the strays. Democrats should use the republican's own tactic - vote for Democrats because you are anti-republican. Only until the GOP is dead, can we move forward. I wish there was a future in which the two major political parties are the conservative Democrats vs. the liberal Greens. Until then, I feel it is wise to vote and support the lesser of two evils. (yes, I've given into Cenk Uygur's and Bill Maher's definition of 'Democrats')

10. yes, I remember a friend in ~1967 saying she wouldn't have children
because the world was going to hell.
I don't know whether she changed her mind later, but I do remember a strong sense of doom in the late 1960s.

7. On one issue, I'd counsel chilling: The DUer leaving the States . . .
I've spent more than half of the last 30 years outside the US, and it hasn't dimmed my ardor for dem/progressive causes nor significantly impeded my supporting those causese -- both emotionally and financially.

True, I've primarily chosen the expatriate lifestyle for employment reasons, but also because I've wanted to immerse myself in other cultures and measure them against the US. It's also afforded me the opportunity to undo some of the damage done by GW Bush & Co. to America's credibility by being a non-crazy American abroad (and proving to some of the rest of the world that we're not all like the wingnuts they see on TV).

At the same time I've also stayed overseas because I haven't wanted to be in the US during 'Lican administrations and haven't wanted to wallow in the swamp of American rightwing media. Doesn't make me less of an American or -- on the whole -- less effective a voice for the things I believe in that affect America.

The other items you mentioned are quite alarming, true. But no more alarming than the things I've heard from/about the wingnutariat my entire life.

13. This is what the right wants
They want us to be so scared we shit our pants and hide. I think fear is a great enemy right now. I tend to let myself become way too afraid and it damages my daily life, I did this during the election when Palin was put on a pedestal for a minute. She was going to be the crowning glory of the McCain campaign, we see how that turned out.

The truth is, when I look around, even in a red state I do see regular people with better attitudes than they had 20 years ago. One small example I saw recently someone on a local sports bulletin made some kind of veiled gay slur and masses of people just railed on him for doing such a thing, on a sports forum in a red state! Progress doesn't always show up in what the media shows, but it is there none-the-less. What we have to see, courtesy of the media, are the stupid tea baggers day and night with their racist hate and their hidden threats. I get to see a senatorial candidate in my state appear at the Capital surrounded by militia members fully armed. What I have to remember is that when I go to the mall, grocery store, or ball game I don't see it teaming with militia, they were out for media consumption. Dangerous, yes; plentiful, NO.

The common decency of the people of this country is being covered up by the sensational media focus on the worst, most fear-inducing lot that exists. Right wing media makes sure that southern white males rant and rave; but then even they have to take their kids to soccer practice and re-enter the world, they will vote for pure hate and repulsive ideas, but they really don't live it in their daily lives. Our only hope is to tune out the incessant fear for ratings and power ploy in the media. By being constantly afraid we ignore the actual majority of people around us and simply play into the hopelessness that the media wants to create so that we will keep tuning in to see what else they say is going to hell.
