I believe one of the officers whose voice you could hear on the clip needs to be punished ASAP.
You could hear him begging for the injured journalist to reach for a gun so that he could shoot him. In fact, the same individual later was desperately seeking permission to engage the van even though it was very clear that there were no weapons involved.
The same dumbass later thought it was funny when a Humvee ran over a dead body and when he learned there were two injured children in the van, he said well they should not bring their kids to the battle!
What a miserable piece of fuck. :argh:

3. I just watched it too. I'm nearly speechless. |
|
And that's difficult for me. I hope every last one of these fucks wakes up to the walls of a military prison for the rest of their existence.

5. Lt. Col. Anthony Shaffer on MSNBC Today on Rules Of Engagement: |
|
RATIGAN: "Let me make it really clear, though. From your perspective, were the rules of engagement followed from what you see in this piece of videotape?"
SHAFFER: "Let me be clear... based on what I've seen only, and I'm making it on what I've seen: No, they were not. First rule is 'You may engage persons who commit hostile acts or show hostile intent by minimum force necessary.' Minimum force is the key here. If you see eight armed men, the first thing I would think as an intelligence officer: 'How can we take these guys and capture them?' We don't want to kill people arbitrarily. We want the intell take.
Now, most importantly, when you see that van show up to take away the wounded: 'Do not target or strike anyone who has surrendered or is out of combat due to sickness or wounds.' So the wound part of that, I find a bit disturbing by the fact that you have people down, clearly down; you have people on the way here..."

9. I watched the whole thing too, Attacking the van was clearly wrong. |
|
There were no weapons, there were no cameras that could be mistaken for guns. That van was acting as an ambulance. I see no excuse for attacking it.

10. Ugh...this situation didn't have to happen. |
|
I've been a soldier in the Army and understand how much adrenaline goes into a situation like that, but from what I've read in the news online it really was a massacre. I was really hoping we had moved past that, with so many years on the ground. And now this, more proof that George, Dick and Rummy should be held responsible for these kind of crimes - since they orchestrated the notion of invading Iraq for political gains (profit). Just remember to judge the men at the top too, the ones at the bottom will get punished soon enough for the decisions they made. The military will have to punish (make an example) them now. Trained professionals don't 'make these kind of mistakes'.
