If You Had One Wish, Just One....What Would That Wish Be For
Don't think too long, be honest and answer with the first thing you thought of to wish for...

This is cyber city, a world where faces are masked, identities hidden for the most part...can you be honest with not only yourself but with other masked key board bit players?

The reason this questions interests me is because of all that is happening world wide these days and how overwhelmed I personaly feel with everything that needs attention...

If you cannot be honest in a world where faces are nothing more than shadows can you honestly be honest in life and can you expect others that you deal with face to be face to be just as honest in dealings you might have on a personal level with others....

This is not a joke though for some might appear stupid, this is a poll of sorts, one designed to find out why, why we were so easy to defeat..perhaps if we can find out what your own weaknesses are, perhaps we can change them into a strength, a strength that is definitely needed since people continue to die needlessly, people continue to find themselves homeless and helpless needlessly and people continue to silently look away feeling themselves helpless, too helpless to help those unable to help themselves..

This will more than likely drop like a hot potato but I hope not...I hope to come back and read some honest and thoughtful answers..I won't hold my breath...it is not a time for joking...it is no longer funny.....laughter might temporally ease someone's pain from old or new wounds but unless that wound has a chance to heal, the pain will always return...

Debby downer here reporting for duty...

3. one wish
My very first wish was a personal one, that I maintain my health. My second one, for the nation in general, which I'm guessing you were wanting an answer for, was that every person be educated in how our democratic process works, and what his/her part in making that work, could be. If we, as a nation, were better educated, better informed, it would affect the world mightily.

4. If I had one wish that I could wish this holiday season...
Edited on Tue Apr-06-10 01:40 PM by SidDithers
it would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing together in the spirit of harmony and peace.

If I had two wishes that I could wish for this holiday season, the first would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of harmony and peace.. and the second would be for $30 million a month to be given to me, tax-free in a Swiss bank account.

You know, if I had three wishes that I could make this holiday season, first, of course, would be for all the children to get together and sing.. the second would be for the $30 million every month to me.. and the third would be for all encompassing power over every living being thing in the entire universe.

And if I had four wishes that I could make this holiday season, first would be the crap about the kids.. second would be for the $30 million.. the third would be for all the power.. and the fourth would be to set aside one month each year for an extended 31-day orgasm, to be brought about slowly by Rosanna Arquette and that model Paulina somebody, I can't think of her name, of course my lovely wife could come, too. She's behind me 100% on this, I guarantee you.

Wait a minute, maybe that sex thing should be the first wish! So, if I made that the first wish, because, you know, it could all go boom tomorrow, and then what have you got? No, no.. the kids singing would be great, that would be nice. No, no, who am I kidding! I mean, theyu're not gonna be able to get all those kids together! I mean, the logistics of the thing is impossible! It's mroe trouble than it's worth! So, we reorganize: here we go. First, the sex - we go with that; second, the money. No! We go with the power second, then the money, and then the kids. Oh, wait, oh geez! I forgot about revenge against my enemies! Okay.. revenge against all my enemies, they should die like pigs in Hell! That would be the fourth wish! And of course, my fifth wish would be for all the children of the world to join hands and sing in the spirit of peace and harmony. Thank you, everybody.

7. Since I'm on a political board, and my thoughts are of a political nature while here,
my first thought was that if I could have any wish, I'd wish the George W. Bush years had never happened.

No SCOTUS Presidential appointment.

No 9/11 attack. (Anyone else would have taken steps to prevent it.)

No wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

No $4.00/gallon + gas.

No spying.

No outing of CIA agents.

No escalation of the deficit.

Think of all that crap we've put up with that probably would have never happened. When you take all of that away, things might not be so bad right now.

if everybody stopped working for them (you know who i mean) and stopped paying for all their crap i think they'd go broke (or maybe not) but anyway it's worth a try...

WE DO NOT NEED THEM...

in order to make up for the lack of stuff create our own good stuff / in other words create our own jobs create our own stuff / stuff that is renewable and doesn't pollute and is good for the world...

- WE CAN DO IT...

35. My wish would be that the Wiccan "Law of Three" become an actual Law of Nature.
I'm not Wiccan, but I love the idea that whatever you do comes back to you times three. Do good, and you receive threefold blessings. Succumb to greed, arrogance, and cruelty, and you get it back three times as bad.

With such a law in place, pretty soon the richest people in the world would also be the kindest and most generous, and the poorest, most miserable people would be those who'd done nothing but hurt and take advantage of others. Given enough time, such a law would truly make the world right itself. :)

"In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression--everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in (their) own way--everywhere in the world. The third is the freedom of want...The fourth is freedom from fear."

51. For more wishes, of course.
"You have one wish. What do you want?"

Me: "More wishes."

"Okay. How many?"

Me: "Here's my list:
  1. An immediate end to corporate personhood with an immediate return to the original conception of corporate charters.

  2. A complete re-purposing of the "Defense" Department to actual defense only. No more funding of offense activities. Sole purpose of standing army and military spending confined to protection within our borders.

  3. Outlawing of all private interest lobbyist groups. Lobbying confined to citizen advocates only.

  4. Return of all FDR era financial regulations, expanded and updated where necessary.

  5. A massive government program of infrastructure rebuilding and employment based on the models of the WPA and CCC.

  6. A progressive tax on UNEARNED income -- all of it. Same tax rate applied to capital gains as is applied to income tax.

  7. A tax and/or fee on all stock transactions. Every trade, every bet.

  8. Make all obscure financial "products" and manipulations illegal. No more credit default swaps, no more bundled securities, no more derivatives, no more short selling.

  9. A return of strict usary laws -- no interest charges allowed above a set base level. 8% should be good enough.

  10. Outlaw the propagation of empirically false information by public media outlets. Opinion is free, but facts are facts.

  11. Strict regulation of media ownership with vigorous anti-trust enforcement. Community-generated local media must be protected.

  12. Universal single payer health care.

  13. Heavy tax penalties on U.S. companies who outsource.

  14. All international trade agreements must impose labor and environmental standards commesurate with U.S. standards. Products produced by violators not allowed to be imported into the U.S.

  15. Return of tariffs to protect U.S. industry and agriculture.

  16. An end to subsidies for Big Agribusiness. Agricultural subsidies/loans available to genuine family farms only.

  17. An FDA completely divorced from Big Pharma. R&D done at public universities subsidized, for which any private company must pay a hefty fee for access. Subsequent profits must be shared with the universities from which the research was obtained.

  18. Outlaw all pharmaceutical ads in the media. Full disclosure by all medical organizations of any collaberation with pharmaceutical companies.

  19. An end to the 401K scam. If you want to play the stock market, fine, just don't call it "saving" for retirement. Institute a government run defined pension plan for all workers, paid into by all employers by assessing a fee based on a defined percentage of each employer's payroll.

  20. Institute laws and policies that favor domestic production of finished, value-added products out of domestic resources -- thus creating jobs and local industry -- and discourage the export of raw resources -- i.e. no more cutting down forests to export logs that end up as pressed pulp produced in another country.

  21. An end to ALL "privatizing profits and socializing risks/costs" by ALL corporate entities. If you pollute, you pay. If you screw up, you pay. If you won't pay, your corporation is dissolved and your individual officers are each assessed for their share of the damages or face prison time and garnishment of all personal assets.

  22. Outlawing of all "SLAP" lawsuits.

    "Is that all?"

Me: "No. That's just what I came up with off the top of my head. I reserve the right to continue to add to my list of wishes."

    sw

53. Thank you. And yes, absolutely, a cure for diabetes for your child!
With publicly funded R&d divorced from the profit motive, I think a cure could be found in short order. I think a lot of possible cures are deliberately suppressed and/or derailed because there is more profit to be made from "controlling" diseases via pharmaceuticals than from eliminating the diseases altogether.

are unable to afford it. She is my sweetheart and survived the pet-food poisoning three years ago. We are broke.

62. I want the entire guilty batch from the last administration convicted and jailed.
After that, I can address the rest of all that needs wishing for and doing.

Until that, just like the list I used to make about how to structure the rest of my life that was headed by:
"Quit smoking"

and followed by:
"If you don't quit smoking, nothing else really matters", I can't think of anything I want any more.

78. Returning cannabis to the medical pharmacopoeia
Edited on Wed Apr-07-10 07:10 AM by Fly by night
Here is a note I received from a friend on this issue, in support of our effort to re-establish Tennessee's medical cannabis program:

"The so called ‘legal' drugs have horrendous side effects. My mother was prescribed over two dozen (!) ‘legal' drugs to combat the symptoms of her cancer, spinal stenosis, depression, after-effects of stroke, two surgeries, wasting syndrome, etc. Half of these ‘legal' drugs were given to combat the side effects of the other half -- And NOTHING worked!

"During the last months of her life, she was able to get off of these ‘legal' poisons and switch to cannabis, after which she could sleep and eat again, her depression lifted, her personality returned, and her neuropathy and intractable pain were relieved. All from this ‘illegal' plant.

"I will work for the absolute legalization of medical cannabis until the day I die so that no other mother has to go through the hell my mother did as a result of ‘legal' drugs." (TB)

If I can't have that (and I'm working hard for re-legalization of medical cannabis every day), I suppose my second choice would be "whirled peas".
