1. No. When his shift is over (2 hrs?) somebody else gets the title. SOP. |

2. Does it put him in the presidential succession line? |
|
(at least, during the next two hours?)
Actually, I've always liked Congressman Jackson. I supported his dad twice, but the Congressman is a much more serious-minded person and probably has greater potential in national politics.

Being speaker pro temp is just a job they fob off on whoever the Majority Whip is pissed off at that day. He/she has to sit there and listen to all the speeches while everybody else goes home.

6. It's more or less the congressional version of having to stay after school, then? |
|
I can't imagine what Congressman Jackson could've done to deserve that. He's always struck me as the quiet sort who gets stuff done without causing friction. Strong progressive, yes, but the "team player" type.

Hell, I remember when I was a Page and freshman Member Pelosi had to be "Speaker Pro Temp Pelosi" for a few hours.

Jesse has done it before. They take turns sitting up there having to listen to all the ramblings going on.
Folks need to turn C-Span on more often ;)

Having watched his father and him over the years, I was struck to see him; nothing more or less than that.

9. It's a case of people voting for "the name you know." That's |
|
also how many remain in office for decades.

11. Maybe so, but he's impressive enough on his own merits. |
|
No doubt the connections and the name opened doors. Give him a little credit for being effective, though.
