Have republicans stopped talking to you? |
|
Since health care passed and free republic sent out some crummy decree telling their readers to stop associating with liberals as if they were the enemy none of my republican relatives or friends have called, emailed or contacted me in any way. That would be my entire family back east: mom dad brother and sister. At first I thought they were just pouting. I've left them messages and nothing. Then I saw the stupid letter from delusional Voight and was wondering if they are really not talking to me because I don't share the same politics? Is anyone else experiencing this? Should I just keep calling until my mother finally answers? Am I just being paranoid?
What do you all think?

2. I stopped talking to several Repubs I knew during the W-years. |
|
It was too ridiculous listening them justifying everything when we all knew better.

avoided people from time to time or certain conversations. I just feel like they are shunning me. If it was just me I'd be fine with it, but my kids want to know why gramma and grandpa don't want to talk to them on the computer anymore. I'm running out of ways to avoid answering that question. Hopefully my mom will answer some of my messages. I've sent pics of the kids and everything...no response.
She reads free republic everyday and I'm worried she's taking their nuttiness to heart.
Good to hear no one else is experiencing this though. Maybe she is just pouting and will get in touch soon?

3. Democrats have stopped talking to me. |
|
In fact I learned about DU from a Democrat that couldn't keep up with my level of interest.
Face it 99% of the population are not as interested in politics as DUers (or Freepers for that matter).

I didn't even know he was Repug--we'd never talked politics. The day after HCR passed, he stopped by and asked what I thought. Told him I was grateful it passed, but I had hoped for single payer, etc, and that we wouldn't have true reform till we got the insurance cos. & big pharma out of the mix. Well, I could see him literally physically recoiling from me, like I'd just grown a horn out of my forehead. He started to smirk and grimace. Immediately, I figured out where HE stood. So I smiled and asked, "Didn't anyone here tell you I'm a bleeding heart liberal? No? Well, I am." Then I turned back to my work.
He hasn't spoken to me since . . . Had I know it would be that easy to get rid of him, I would've 'fessed up sooner.

8. During the election we had the opposite problem where I was working at the time. |
|
All of us were Dems. except one or two and we were, well, gloating. I noticed one woman being very quiet and not participating in the conversation (she is very religious but sweet-natured and not at all opinionated)and I frankly felt like a jerk. When another co-worker made a disparaging remark about Republicans in front of her I told him to knock it off because some of by best friends were conservatives. Look, if the situation had been reversed I would have felt hurt.

10. No, I have stopped talking to them. Ask my BIL. I told him that |
|
I will no longer discuss politics or current events with him. And I've had to stop him from talking politics since then. He hates it.

with me and my family. We pretty much just avoided politics since we knew we disagreed. But now they are literally not talking to me or my kids. They always wanted to skype on weekends to see the kids, but nothing. Can't get them to return calls either. Sounds like you have a healthier relationship.
My mom is a birther so I'm worried she may take the suggestion to avoid non tea-partiers seriously. :(

15. Nah, I am surrounded by conservatives at work |
|
although there are a few other libs around here. I have been outspoken but approachable with my conservative coworkers all along, through the Bush years to now. Lately they have been angrier and I get a ration of shit whenever I see them, but to their credit, they always do a good job of keeping it good-natured. There have been plenty of times where one of them has stumbled upon our small group of liberals and we have gone on the offensive, so all is fair. There were a few tense moments during the 08 election, but, by and large, we have all been grown-ups about it. One of them has labeled me "his favorite lefty" and I am still good friends with the rest of them...I hope it stays that way.

16. Last time I talked to a republican about politics, I was in a bar and a little drunk... |
|
I verbally ripped him a new asshole. He cried.
It was a lot of fun; I don't get the chance to unload like that too often.

Because they know I am not the type to believe in the same crap they do.
Also they hate being challenged. Dems love a good challenge.

18. I think you need to find new friends. |
|
Your family is another issue. Any family member who allows a non-family member to dictate attitude toward another family member of differing opinion is beyond redemption. You just can't help the stupid.
I am sorry for you. How can a mother not talk to a child over political issues? That one is beyond me.

|
honestly nothing shuts up a republican running off at the mouth, nothing
i'm sure you'll be hearing from every fuckwit in yr extended circle sooner or later, those guys can't keep their yaps shut for long
i would say it's more likely that yr mom and family have been kidnapped by space aliens than that they, as republicans, have learned to keep quiet and pipe down

My Dad always wanted to be kidnapped by aliens. He thinks it's the only way he'll get to fly in outerspace at his age.

most of my friends are republicans. We still can have some heated debates but try not to be crazy on either end. Hell, they represent their class, I represent mine.
